Kentucky State Police are investigating the death of a Taylorsville man after the discovery of his body in a creek bed Sunday morning.

David E. Watkins, 48, was found by a resident living on Dutchmans Creek Road around 10:21 a.m. lying in a creek beneath the homeowner’s driveway. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Spencer County Coroner Danny Hilbert.

KSP Trooper Ron Turley said that investigators believe Watkins was walking to his mother’s residence when the incident occurred. The driveway bridge that Watkins was reportedly attempting to cross is approximately eight feet above the creek bed. Police are working on the suspicion that Watkins’ death was an accident, but are waiting on toxicology tests and the medical examiner’s report before making that final determination.

Taylorsville-Spencer County Fire Department and Spencer County EMS also responded to the scene. The investigation is continuing by Kentucky State Police Post 12 in Frankfort.
