Martins: RadioShack store small, but big on service

You’ll find Radio Shacks at more than 6,500 locations, but you won’t find many as unique and customer-friendly as the one operating in Taylorsville.

Purchasing the franchise store here in 2003 was a dream-come-true for Louisville native Wesley Martin and wife Joy, a native of the Philippine Islands.

The pair met in California, where Joy grew up, while both were working in the telecommunications industry.

In the late 1990s, Wesley was offered a position in Louisville, and after an extensive search, the couple found their ideal home in Spencer.

At their new store, Wesley immediately put his executive-level management experience to good use.

He was well aware that growth of the business would be aided by proper stocking and reliable customer service.

While getting the business up and running, he was also deeply involved in the community as general manager of the Spencer Magnet and president of the local Chamber of Commerce.

After deciding several years ago to become involved with the business on a full-time basis, Wesley has added additional services and overseen expansion.

Helping make the store unique is the availability of in-home services.

“We have our own tech people we send out of this store,” says Joy.

Customers needing help with their computer or networking can count on someone coming to their residence or place of business. The same is true for audio video.

Professionals from the local store can also pre-wire new construction, help create a movie room, and even install video surveillance equipment.

Services available at Taylorsville Radio Shack:

• Wild Blue & HughesNet Internet Service

• Dish Network & DirecTV Satellite TV

• T-Mobile, Nextel/Sprint & AT&T phones and  plans

• Prepaid T-Mobile, Net 10, AT&T Go, and Boost Cell phone services

• Home Theater installations, antenna installs, pre-wiring, security surveillance installs

• Home & Business Networking

• Sell of electronic products and services to consumers, businesses and government

In addition to the owners, the store is staffed by local residents Allison Beeson and Beth Howard.

Located between Dairy Queen and the car wash in Settler’s Center, the store is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The owners like to point out that while the store is still small, the ability to help people is not.

Noting they get great satisfaction from helping customers who support the local economy, the Martins encourage people who can’t make it to the store during normal operating hours to give them a call.

That’s just one of the extra customer courtesies that make Taylorsville RadioShack stand out in the crowd.
