FRANKFORT-- A Mount Eden man is dead after suffering gunshot wounds near a Frankfort apartment complex Monday afternoon.

Frankfort police are investigating a series of events including the alleged shooting death of Mount Eden resident Obie Murphy, 40, who was transported by EMS to University of Kentucky Medical Center and pronounced dead on arrival.

According to Frankfort Police Maj. Fred Deaton, investigators found three injured persons at the 100 block of Thistlewood Avenue at 1:12 p.m. Monday. Two of the three individuals had apparent gunshot wounds. Frankfort resident Gregory Bell, 54, was admitted to the Frankfort Regional Medical Center for treatment. The third person, whose name was not released, was treated and released.

Deaton said it is currently unknown as to why the three individuals were together or why the apparent altercation took place. The crime scene provided confusing clues for investigators, with the three individuals found in three separate locations. Deaton said there was a large apartment that appeared to be the crime scene, while Bell was found in an adjacent apartment and Murphy was found outside the complex in front of a neighboring set of apartments.

“So we have three apartments in question. One we assume the crime scene, one where Bell was found and outside the third apartment was where Murphy was found,” Deaton said.

The investigation is ongoing and what took place is still unknown, Deaton said. Police came on scene after receiving calls reporting gunshots had been fired.

“It’s early in the investigation. Where you have a loss of life it’s a priority and very intense and extensive. We’ve talked to quite a few people in the area,” he said.
