Mt. Eden Fire Chief Doug Herndon said that when crews responded to a house fire at 2709 Pea Ridge Road in Shelby County, they found the entire back portion of the two-story home completely engulfed in flames.
Herndon said that no one was at home at the time of the blaze, which occurred last Friday.
Because of the remote location, water had to be shuttled from nearly five miles away.
“We salvaged some items. A few pictures and collector knives, but little else,” said Herndon. “It was almost a total loss.”
Assisting Mt. Eden Volunteer Fire Department was Shelbyville, Shelby County and Waddy fire departments.
The cause of the fire was not determined and has been turned over to the state fire marshall.
