Area quilting guilds will celebrate National Quilting Day with a Quilters Day Out gathering from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 13 at InnPlace Hotel and Conference Center, located at 9700 Bluegrass Parkway in Louisville.

Quilters Day Out is the party of the year for the quilt guilds with quilts, celebrity guest speaker Kathleen Loomis and demonstrations of quilting skills. This is a Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society (KHQS) District 6 event, but everyone is welcome whether they are an experienced quilter or someone who is just interested in fiber art and would like to learn more about the Kentucky art form. This also is an opportunity to get connected with other ‘like minded’ ladies.

One feature of the Quilter’s Day Out program is the series of 20-minute skill building demonstrations held in individual classrooms. These demonstrations include such skills as binding quilts, embellishing with beads, paint and embroidery, basic hand quilting technique, and many more. The classes are taught by local women.

There will be vendors, door prizes, sit and sew, a quilt challenge with cash prizes, demonstrations and lunch available to purchase, or bring your own brown bag. Admission is $3 plus a donation to the area food pantry.
