New center of information

-A A +A
By Kathy Lynch

New to the area and need information on how to get the gas, electric and phone turned on?  Or wondering where to get drivers licenses, auto registrations or groceries?  Contact the newly formed Information Center located in the front office of the Chamber of Commerce office for this and more information or ask for a relocation packet containing everything one would need to get settled in to Spencer County.

Passing through or planning a stay at Taylorsville Lake? Contact the Information Center for the low down on where to stay, rules of the lake and even where to fill your picnic baskets.

Already a local resident and have a project to do at home but don’t have the necessary tools and equipment to do-it-yourself? Contact the Information Center for local businesses that can help.

Through the joint efforts of Spencer County Tourism, the Chamber of Commerce, City of Taylorsville and Spencer County government,  anyone needing information about pretty much anything, including tourism, businesses, where to get what is needed around the county can now be received by calling just one number.

According to Chamber Vice President Melvin Gore, hopes are to be available and provide help to visitors, new residents, potential residents and local residents.

“If we don’t know the answer, we will know the right people who will,” said Gore.  “We will call the person back with whatever info they need.”

Gore added they are logging each call and building up a data base of information, “so we will have that answer the next time it gets asked,” he said.

The Information Center is also working towards starting up a program with the Spencer County High School to help the students get the 15 volunteer hours they are required to get to graduate.

“I am hoping to give the students some real job experience, answering phones in the office, running errands, delivering flowers, helping with a parade or with one of our festivals,” said Gore.  “Something different than always cleaning a ditch somewhere.”  Adding this is something they are working towards.

The Information Center is located at the Chamber of Commerce Office, 19 E Main Street, Taylorsvlle.  Missy Hawkins will be the go-to gal answering the phones Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The center will be closed Wednesdays and Sundays.
