The Spencer County Octoberfest annual family festival scheduled for Oct. 5-6 is quickly approaching and  community members from across Spencer County have opportunities to get involved.
The year’s theme is all about superheroes — but that doesn’t mean just Super Man and Wonder Woman. Octoberfest Committee member Tammy Gaines said there will be several notable super heroes on hand during the festival’s parade, but that the super hero theme is meant to encompass anyone that can be considered a hero, from first responders, to military members, to an awesome spouse or friend.
“My Papaw wasn’t a super hero, but to me, he was,” Gaines said.
There are opportunities at this year’s festival to rent booth space, enter a float in the parade or a car in the car show, and there will also be  pageants for babies through teens.
There will also be special musical guests, which currently include Judge Angus, TwangTown, Honky Tonk Road and more.
Signup information and forms for all the events are available online at www.spencercountyoctoberfest.com. The festival also has a Facebook page entitled Spencer County Octoberfest.
For information about the parade, contact parade chair Keith Thomas at 502-572-5555.
Pageant registrations can be mailed to Spencer County Octoberfest, P.O. Box 22, Taylorsville, Ky. 40071, or dropped by the Taylorsville Police Department before 1 p.m. or the Spencer County Sheriff’s Department before 4 p.m.
The Octoberfest Committee is looking for willing volunteers to help with a number of activities.
Anyone wishing to volunteer or needing forms and unable to access them on the internet should call the Taylorsville Police Department’s non-emergency number at 502-477-3231.
