Octoberfest expands, adds events

Spencer County Octoberfest 2013 will run from Oct. 1-5, expanding from its traditional two-day format.
This year’s theme is “Once Upon a Time.”
This year, the pre-teen, junior miss, and miss pageants will be on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the First Assembly of God Church, beginning at 6:45 p.m. Practice will be Sunday, Sept. 29.
The babies, tiny tots, Little Mr. and Miss, and King and Queen Cutie (special needs ages 4-19) will be on Thursday, Oct. 3, at First Assembly beginning at 6:45 p.m. Practice is Sept. 29 beginning at 2 p.m. for Little Mr. and Miss and King and Queen Cutie. There is no practice for babies or tiny tots.

On Wednesday, Oct. 2, the Octoberfest committee is joining with the Thumbs Up For Lane Goodwin Childhood Cancer Foundation to sponsor a 5K Run/Walk at 7 p.m. Early registration is $25. Registration on the day of the event is $30.
Friday, Oct. 4, will feature a talent show at 7 p.m. The talent show is open to all ages and will accept solo or group performances in the following categories: vocal, instrumental, variety, dance and acrobatics/gymnastics. For official rules, visit spencercountyoctoberfest.com.
Saturday, Oct. 5, will feature crafts, a car show, the annual parade at 10:30 a.m. and live music featuring talent show winners and Judge Angus.
