Octoberfest: Parade, pageants, and prizes

Pageant contestants needed

There is still a need for contestants of all ages, but especially in need are those who would like to compete in the:  Little Mister/5-8 years old, Preteen/10-12 years old, Babies/6 months-36 months, Tiny Tots/ 3 and 4 year olds, Miss Spencer County/16 - 19 years old.  All categories except Babies/Tiny Tots will be having a meeting on October 1, at 6 p.m. at the City Hall Annex. 

Pageants will take place Oct. 3 and 4 on the main stage on Main Street.

Floats needed for parade

Are you a member of a church or civic organization that would like to create a float for the Octoberfest parade? Well, get out that tissue paper and chicken wire, it’s time to build something spectacular. The theme will be “North or South.”

If you or your organization would like to be part of this year’s parade, formerly known as the Spencer County Homecoming Parade, then contact Karen Spencer at 502-619-4416.

Cornhole tournament

Anyone interested in participating in a cornhole tournament Oct. 4 should register the day of the event between 1:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. The tournament will begin at 2:30 p.m. This is a double elimination event with an entry fee of $40 per team. Cash prizes will be awarded for first and second place.

Car show

A car show will be open for all classes during Octoberfest. Early registration is $15. Day of show, $20. The car show will be held behind the Chamber of Commerce. To register, call Donnie Spencer after 4 p.m. at 619-4726.

Old Time Scooter Races

Sign up now for kid-powered scooter races being held on Oct. 4.  Protective gear must be worn and parents must sign permission slip and be present during race.  Please note scooters can only be ridden during races and/or in parade. There is a $5 entry fee.  Age categories are:  6 years and under, 7 - 12 years, 13 - 17 years of age.  Sponsored by The Red Scooter.  For more information call them at 477-6608.

Display antique or

homemade scooters

Bring your antique scooter and/or your homemade scooter to The Red Scooter to be displayed for the day of October 4 only.  They will be judged and a winner picked for Best All Around scooter.  Contact The Red Scooter for more details, at 477-6608.
