Some big names in Kentucky politics are planning to make a stop in Taylorsville this weekend.
U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul will be attending the Spencer County Republican Party Family Picnic and Barbecue this Saturday, said Lynn Hesselbrock, party chair.
Paul, who is facing democratic challenger Attorney General Jack Conway this fall, is scheduled to speak sometime between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Other speakers include gubernatorial candidate Phil Moffett and Lt. Governor candidate Mike Harmon. State Senate President David Williams is also planning to attend, if possible, said Hesselbrock.
Rounding out the line-up will be State Senate candidate Paul Hornback, State Representative candidate Kim King, State Representative David Floyd, State Senator Gary Tapp and State Representative Brad Montell. U.S. Congressman Brett Guthrie has been invited and is reportedly arranging his schedule to attend.
Hesselbrock said the times for these speakers will be interspersed throughout the event as the candidates’ schedules allow.
“This will be a great opportunity to hear the candidates’ positions and for you to let them know your concerns,” said Hesselbrock.
The Spencer County Republican Party’s annual family picnic and barbecue will be held from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the GOP Headquarters, located at 165 East Main Street.
Food available for purchase includes barbecue and side dishes. The cost is $10 per adult and $5 for children 6-12 years. Children under 6 eat free.
