During Monday night’s Fiscal Court meeting, Spencer County Attorney Ruth Hollan, center, discussed how Spencer Countians came together to help fellow Kentuckians in West Liberty after tornadoes hit the area March 2.
Hollan described how the Morgan County attorney lost her office, her home and everything she owned. Through a collaborative effort, many Spencer County offices and community residents collected thousands of dollars to purchase needed materials. Hollan said ‘not a penny of taxpayer money’ was spent, and many donations were collected from businesses. ‘Until you see something like that, you can never in your wildest dreams imagine the devastation,’ she said. Hollan challenged those in the audience to pick a project and fix it. She advised community members to stop looking at the bad and the wrong things without being a part of the solution.
