The Spencer County boys soccer team is gearing up for the postseason and have compiled a very competitive 7-9 record heading into their final week of regular season play.
The Bears took a 4-0 victory over a Louisville Southern team that had been on a bit of a winning streak, winning four of their last six.
However, Spencer County was able to jump out early on two goals by Tyler Fleig, one on a corner kick that was helped by a stiff wind. The Bears held on to a 2-0 lead to the break.
“We were concerned that two goals would not be enough as the wind was a big factor,” said Bears’ Coach Paul Taylor.
Those concerns were eased a bit when Fleig scored another goal to put Spencer County up 3-0 and then Cody Ingram netted a ball after an assist from Jacob Lanham to go up 4-0.
The lead allowed Taylor to get playing time for all his players as they get set to end their regular season and focus on the district tournament they’ll be hosting next week.
The Bears were to play North Bullitt on Tuesday night and were set to bid farewell to seniors Cody Ingram, Thibault Golliard, Maverick Devine and Austin Jucoff. They will then open district tournament play next Monday night when they host Collins at 7:30. The winner of that game will then play South Oldham at 7:30 on Tuesday night with the championship game set for Wednesday at 6 p.m.
