Spencer County Middle remained in first place in the Mid-Kentucky Athletic Conference on Thursday with a win over the visiting Knights of St. Dominic School.

The game began when the Grizzly Cody Buckman onside kicked the ball and then recovered it himself. On SCMS's second play from scrimmage, tailback Will Eldridge scored (untouched) from 42 yards out. Zack Smith would split the uprights on the PAT kick to make the score a quick 8-0, Spencer County.

St. Dominic's offense would struggle against a swarming Grizzly defense. The Knights were able to run several plays, but would fumble the ball (which was recovered by Eldridge) at their own 21 yard line. The Grizzlies would put more points on the board in the form of a 4 yard run by fullback Dalton Goodlett, pushing the score to 14-0.

Spencer County would thwart St. Dominic's next drive once again. On offense, they went to the air when quarterback Trent Holbrook found his big tight end Bridger Knotts downfield for the 30 yard score. The PAT run failed, but the damage was done in the 20-0 score.

The Knights would fumble again on their next possession only to see Spencer County's Chase Smith recover it this time around midfield. The Grizzlies would take advantage and score on a big 30 yard reverse by receiver Gage Mertz to make the score 26-0, SC.

With momentum clearly on their side, Spencer County's final touchdown of the half came when 6th grader Will Edwards scrambled to his left with 9.2 seconds to go from the St. Dominic 31 yard line. With no recievers open downfield, and with the help of a huge block from receiver Brett Goodlett, he cut back across the field to score as time ran out in the half. Goodlett would punch the PAT through on an easy run up the middle to make the score 33-0 at halftime.

In the second half, all of Spencer County's players would see action. Behind the running of Zack Smith, Trenton Bryant, Micheal Fowler, Kynan Smith, and Edwards, the Grizzlies would move the ball up and down the field. Their final score of the night was when Fowler rolled to his right and found tight end Cody Russell wide open in the end zone from 18 yards out. The final score was 39-0, Spencer County.
