Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a teenaged girl who has been missing from her home in Shelbyville since Thursday.

Amber Dawn McKinney, 16, was last seen leaving her home on Jonathan Circle on Thursday morning to go to school, according to Shelbyville Police.

McKinney, daughter of Angela Peters, is described as a white female with below-shoulder-length brown hair and hazel eyes. She has a thin build, at 5 foot 4 inches and 105 pounds. She is a student at Shelby County High School.

When she left for school on Thursday, she was wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt inscribed with Shelby County Rockets on the front and khaki pants.

Shelbyville Police Officer Istvan Kovacs said the girl, who lives with her mother, hangs out at Lynn Acres apartment complex.

“She also has family in Tennessee and Florida,” he said.

Kovacs said that although they are not certain, police suspect that the girl has runaway.

“Supposedly, none of her friends have seen her,” he said.

“We think she may have run away, but we’re not sure. And if she has run away and someone is letting her stay with them, they can be charged with harboring a runaway, which is a Class D felony.”

If anyone has any information about the girl, they are asked to call Shelby County Dispatch at 633-2323.
