Seventy dollars worth of merchandise shoplifted from the Taylorsville Dollar General was returned after the intervention from a citizen, said Taylorsville Police Chief Toby Lewis.
The shoplifter, whose name was not provided, was seen loading items on display outside the store into a vehicle.
Lewis said he received a phone call at his home reporting the crime in progress. The witness provided a description of the person, the vehicle and even took a photograph of the suspect.
After being presented with the evidence by police, the suspect returned all the items to the store.
