Smith competes at Junior Olympics

SCHS student finishes forth in 400m


Kadin Smith, an upcoming seventh-grader at Spencer County Middle School, earned the honor to compete nationally at the USA Track and Field Jr. Olympics in Baltimore held July 23-29. During the weeklong event, Kadin competed against other qualifiers from across the nation.
He advanced through first and second round competition in the 200m and 400m sprinting events, competing against 52 and 50 other contenders, respectively, to earn the right to advance to the final field of eight.
In the 200m, Kadin finished seventh overall. Unfortunately, he was disqualified secondary to a lane violation. Despite this setback, Kadin went on to complete final competition in the 400m finishing fourth overall. This earned him the prestigious honor of Junior Olympic All-American.
In addtion to these accomplishments, Kadin also set personal performance records in the 200m and 400m sprints, with times of 25.32 seconds and 56.46 seconds, respectively.
During the regular season, Kadin competes with the SCMS track team. In summer competition, he competes with Westside Track Club of Louisville.
