The family of executed Confederate soldier John May Hamilton has directed and participated in the removal of his remains from Maple Grove Cemetery just south of Louisville to an Appalachian burying ground near his birthplace.
Hamilton, 30, of Keaton in Johnson County, KY was one of two Rebel prisoners executed by a Union firing squad Aug. 3, 1864, in the Nelson County community of Bloomfield, some 30 miles southeast of Louisville.
