Spencer County was well represented at the annual Queen City soccer tournament held in Clarksville, Tenn., on Oct 26-27.
The Spencer County Soccer Association, the youth soccer league in Spencer County and home of the Spencer County Futbol Club, is proud to announce the U13 Footie Chicks and U10B SCFC teams as tournament champions.
The U13 girls were grouped in the U13/14 division and therefore had to play a couple of teams that were older. The size, strength and age of the older teams proved to be no match for the Footie Chicks as they beat U14 TSC Swoosh 3-0, U13 SRFC Lady Rapids 3-0, and U13 MCSSA Revolution 5-0 to win their bracket and advance to the championship game.
The girls had to fight through some very physical games, but their defense held strong throughout the weekend, while their attack was able to score from some very nice passes and possession play.
The Footie Chicks played with a lot of heart and let their style of play speak for itself. The final match pitted the much larger and faster U14 Royals, the winner of bracket No. 2, against the Spencer County Footie Chicks. The Chicks were challenged early in the game and the Royals played very physical in hopes to force their way to a score. The Chicks answered quickly by winning the ball at midfield and controlling most of the first half, playing on the Royals side.
The second half was no different, but the match got much more intense with the score tied at 1-1.
Finally a nice defensive play allowed a pass to an aware Footie Chick who dribbled a defender and sent a beautiful pass to the center of the goal area at the feet of a running on teammate who drilled the ball into the net.
The final score was 2-1 with the Footie Chicks claiming the 2012 Queens City tournament champion title.
The U10 boys team had a fun weekend and showed it on the field. The boys desire the ball and find a way to win the ball at all opportunities. What they do with the ball after they win it is what separates them from most of their competition as a quick couple of passes usually leads to a goal scoring opportunity.
The U10 SCFC boys love the game and it shows every time they take the field with their fearless foot skills and passing. The boys defeated the 03 Royals 13-0, the PVS 03 boys 7-0, and went to the championship game very confident.
The championship game was played much more physical by the opposing team, but the results were the same as the U10 SCFC boys won 8-0, taking home the 2012 Queens City tournament title.
The SCSA is very proud of these two outstanding teams and wishes them the best in the upcoming seasons. The SCSA 2013 spring season signups will take place throughout the month of January 2013. Please visit spencercountysoccer.com for more information.
