Spencer County has been chosen to receive $7,453.00 to supplement Emergency Food and Shelter programs in the county. These funds have been made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).
A Spencer County board made up of local representatives (United Way, American Red Cross, et al.) will determine how the funds awarded to the county are to be distributed among the Emergency Food and Shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area. The Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds made available through the ARRA.
When applying for the ARRA funding, it should be treated as such to address the great increases in unemployment and community need which are being seen.
If you were a recipient of the Emergency Food and Shelter funds this year and wish to apply, the application should be addressed to the need listed above.
Under the terms of the grant from the national board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must:
1) be private voluntary non-profits or units of government,
2) have an accounting system,
3) practice nondiscrimination,
4) have demonstrated the capacity to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and
5) if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board. Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.
Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds must contact Jill Whitehouse or Vicky Husband at 502-477-8296 for an application. The deadline for applications to be received is on October 5.
