A Washington County grand jury recently returned an indictment against a Bardstown man accused of robbing a local bank.

Ledrick Shontay Edwards, 29, 131 Wimble Court, was indicted for first-degree robbery, a Class B felony, for allegedly robbing the Springfield State Bank branch on Bardstown Road Nov. 7. Edwards is accused of entering the bank and robbing it at gunpoint. Surveillance video allegedly shows Edwards entering other banks earlier in the day, but leaving without incident. Video also allegedly shows Edwards in the Springfield bank as it was robbed, as well as a vehicle that was later found at his home leaving the bank property.

Edwards was arrested Nov. 11 at an Econo Lodge motel on Bardstown Road in Louisville. Upon his arrest, $4,600 was recovered from the robber. He was carrying $2,700 in cash at the time of arrest.

In addition to the robbery indictment, he was indicted for being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, a Class C felony, and two counts of being a first-degree persistent felony offender.

Edwards remains in the Marion County Detention Center under $200,000 full-cash bond.

An indictment indicates that a grand jury found sufficient evidence for a case to go to trial. An indictment does not indicate guilt, and all of those indicted are innocent until proven guilty.
