Taylorsville native is serving second deployment

Sgt. Brett Tate, a Taylorsville native, is serving his second deployment to Afghanistan. Tate enlisted in 2008 after graduating from Spencer County High School.

Tate is in the Wardock providence with the 173rd Airborne Division.
He was a cornerback/receiver for the Spencer County Bears and was named all-conference in his senior year.
Tate married his wife, Melanie, in April and when not deployed, he is stationed in Bamberg, Germany.
He is the son of Cary and Donna Tate of Taylorsville and Marguerite Tate of Jeffersonville, Ind.
He is the brother of David and Jessica Cross of Taylorsville and grandson of Gary and Georgann Tate of Louisville.

According to Tate’s parents, soldiers are requesting the following items: baby wipes, hard candy, gum, water flavor packets, hand or feet warmers, protein bars, vitamins, beef jerky, reading material and any ready made food (cans of spaghetti, ravioli, spam, tuna, etc.).
Donna Tate said packages seem to be taking two to four weeks to arrive and said military boxes are available at the post office.
