Grizzly baseball added another notch on their championship belt this season by defeating St. Dominic Middle School 10-7 in the 2009 MKAC Championship game last Tuesday.
“It was definitely the hardest fought game that I have seen at any level,” said Coach Scott Noel. He describe the St. Dominic team as a powerhouse that compared to the higher level of competition the Grizzlies have come to expect from teams like Oldham County Middle.
SCMS came into the championship playoffs with a conference record of 12-2 and on a nine-game winning streak. Their season record improved to 17-4 after conference play. Several times the team played outside their conference with bigger teams, like Anderson, Shelby and Oldham.
“This team battled and never gave up. They fought every game,” said Noel. “They have shown an incredible amount of heart.”
With only two years as an organized middle school team, the Grizzlies have won a co-championship in 2008 and now the top prize of champions.
“Other teams had their star players, but I think that’s why our team was different. Everybody contributed to every game. We were solid.”

“I look forward to seeing this group of kids represent Spencer County baseball over the next four years at the high school,” said Noel.
