Lindsey Katherine Vowels of Taylorsville, daughter of Pete and Dianne Vowels, was awarded a degree from the University of Kentucky College of Nursing at a special recognition ceremony held Dec. 14, 2012.
The UK College of Nursing offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, as well as two doctoral programs, the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD).
The college has a reputation for its ever-evolving approaches to nursing education, including computer-driven patient simulation and partners with other UK colleges in an interprofessional education program which brings together other health professions, social work, communications and law students to build a collaborative approach to patient care. Approximately 600 undergraduate students and 175 graduate students are currently enrolled. In addition, 53 full-time faculty members, 72 percent of whom hold doctoral degrees, provide an excellent student/faculty ratio and provide an expert, supportive and mentoring atmosphere. The UK College of Nursing has graduated more than 6,000 individuals; 64 percent have remained in Kentucky.
