Spencer Magnet Labor Day Deadlines and Office Closing
The Spencer Magnet’s advertising deadline for ads running in the Sept. 3rd edition is Friday, Aug. 29, at 12:00 p.m. Late ads will not be accepted due to early print deadlines.
The Spencer Magnet’s office will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, in observance of the Labor Day holiday and will re-open on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 9:00 a.m.

CASA recruiting volunteers in Spencer County
Court Appointed Special Advocates is recruiting new volunteers in the Spencer and Shelby county area to advocate in the court system for abused and neglected children. There are currently over 30 children waiting for a CASA volunteer in the Spencer and Shelby county area.
A volunteer training workshop will be held in August for persons interested in becoming a volunteer. Call 502-647-2155 or visit CASA’s website at www.CASARiverRegion.org to learn how you can make a difference in a child’s life.

Spencer County Circuit Clerk’s Office Closed for Labor Day
The Spencer County Circuit Clerk’s Office will be closed Monday, September 1st, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.  The office will reopen on Tuesday, September 2nd at 7:30 am.

Spencer County Preschool to hold screening
Spencer County Preschool Early Childhood Screening will be held on September 5th from 8:00-3:00. The Early Childhood screening is by appointment only! This will be the only scheduled Preschool screening prior to the start of the 2014/2015 school year.

Motorcycle road skills testing
Last day for motorcycle road skills testing in Spencer County is August 28 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. After this date, motorcycle road tests will be discontinued until next spring and dates will be announced at that time. The location for the testing is Waterford Park on Highway 44, five (5) miles west of Taylorsville.
Be prepared to spend at least fifteen minutes for the actual skills test and allow an hour out of your schedule for the entire process. Before the test is given, Kentucky State Law requires you to have a helmet, current proof of insurance, and that your motorcycle equipment is working properly. There are no exceptions

Congressman Guthrie to host town hall meeting
Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) will host a town hall in Spencer County on Friday, August 29, 2014, at 4 p.m. EST at the Spencer County Fiscal Court Building located at 18 East Main Street in Taylorsville, Ky. The town hall will be open to both the general public and the media.
“It is an honor to represent Kentucky’s Second District and I look forward to hearing what’s on the mind of my fellow Kentuckians,” said Congressman Guthrie. “There are so many issues in the news today and I think it’s important to provide an opportunity to discuss them.”
Attendees can expect to hear a brief legislative update of the Congressman’s efforts in Washington, with a primary focus on audience questions. Constituent Services representatives will also be available to meet with constituents individually to discuss any specific casework issues they may have related to Social Security, Medicare, Veterans benefits or any other federal program.

Autumn Nights Fundraiser for Christmas on Main
The Christmas on Main Street Committee is hosting a fundraising country/western themed dance entitled “Autumn Nights” for Christmas on Main Street. The event will be Saturday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m. at
the Chamber of Commerce Building located at 19 East Main St., Taylorsville. Refreshments will be served and a DJ will be on hand to play tunes. Cost for the event is $10 per person or $15 per couple. Children are welcome, but those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Advance tickets are available at the Tea Cup or by calling 422-1537 or 354-1863, and tickets will also be available at the door.
Historic Area open for free public tours
The historic Ashes Creek Schoolhouse and Yates Log Cabin at the Taylorsville Lake Corps of Engineers’ Historic Interpretive Area by the Corps Visitor Center will be open for free public tours on August 30th and 31st from noon to 5:00 p.m. each day.
