Finchville Ruritan plans fish fries
The Finchville Ruritan Club will be have a fish fry on the following dates: this Friday and March 1, 15 and 22. The time will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Finchville Community Center on Ky. 55, four miles south of the I-64 Taylorsville exit.
The dinner will be fish, wedges, slaw, rolls, cobbler and a drink. The cost for the meal is $10 per person.

Historical society to meet Monday
The February meeting of the Spencer County Historical and Genealogical Society’s will meet Monday, 6 p.m., at the Spencer County Public Library. Those interested in learning more about Spencer County’s history and tracing their family trees are welcome to attend.

Baseball team to host auction
Spencer County High School’s annual baseball auction and chili supper will be March 2 in the Spencer County High School cafeteria.
The meal will feature chili, sandwiches and desserts. The cost is $7 per adult and $3 per child.
The meal begins at 5 p.m. and the auction will follow at 6:30.
Auction items include Disney World tickets, Dollywood tickets, Kings Island tickets, Newport Aquarium tickets and more.

Habitat accepting applications for two partner families
Spencer County Habitat for Humanity will select two new partner families in the coming months.
Interested families should attend one of two upcoming application orientation meetings. The meetings are scheduled for Saturday, March 2, at 10 a.m. and Tuesday, March 5, at 7 p.m. Both meetings will be at the Fiscal Court building, located at 12 W. Main St. in Taylorsville. Trained Habitat interviewers will be on hand to explain how Habitat works and assist families in filling out the application.
The application deadline is March 19.
The orientation is free and open to the public.

Relay for Life dance looking for volunteers, concession donations
The annual Spencer County Relay for Life dance at Spencer County Middle School is March 8. The event is currently seeking volunteers to work the dance. Volunteers must have a background check to work at the school.
The local committee is also looking for donated items for concessions, including hot dogs, sodas, candy, chips, etc.

Quilter’s Day Out set for March 9
A “Quilter’s Day Out” in honor of National Quilting Day is planned for March 9 for the Louisville area including Spencer County.
The event will feature 25 quilt guilds who will share their talents and display their work and discuss the charity projects they chose to support throughout the year.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be at the Fern Valley Hotel and Conference Center at I-65, located at 2715 Fern Valley Road in Louisville.
Admission is $5, plus a non-perishable food item or toiletries that will be donated to the Shepherd’s Shelter in Bullitt County.

Adult Ed offers college, GED prep classes
College and GED preparation classes are available at the Spencer County Adult Education Program, located at 406 Main Cross in Taylorsville.
Classes are offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings as well as Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Are you 65 years of age or over? Homeowners age 65 or over may be eligible to receive the homestead exemption if they reside in the home. This may reduce your real estate assessment on which your property tax bill is based. Are you receiving total disability payments? Homeowners who receive benefits for total disability may be entitled to receive a reduction in their real estate assessment on which your property tax bill is based.
