Shelburne to host St. Jude Charity Softball Game at Ray Jewell Park
On Saturday August 2, Country Artist and Taylorsville Native JD Shelburne will host his 7th Annual St Jude Charity Softball Game against the 97.5 WAMZ Country HAMZ at Ray Jewell Park. The game will start at 1pm and is open to the public. Before the game (11am) there will be a home-run derby to help benefit St Jude as well featuring Shelburne and some of his players. $5 entry fee. Come out and support JD Shelburne and his team as they raise money to help the children of St Jude! In the last 6 years, JD Shelburne and his team have raised over $16,000 for St. Jude! Spencer County Bears Soccer to host alumni game
Saturday, August 9th beginning at 7pm at the High School stadium, the Spencer County Bears are hosting an Alumni Soccer Game. This year, not only will they be holding a game between the current SCHS team and a team of alums, but we are also inviting an Alumni Band to play and an Alumni Cheerleading Squad to cheer the players on.
Alumni soccer practices will be led by returning Coach Chris Price, with assistance by Coach Paul Taylor and Coach Larry Dysinger - who have also volunteered to be the soccer officials for the game. Ms. Peggy Pickett will be directing the Alumni Band and Ms. Elisha Murphy will lead the cheerleaders. Practices for all alumni groups will be held on Wednesday the 6th and Friday the 8th at 6pm.
Dr. Becky House of Spencer County Physical Therapy has agreed to be on hand to assist and aid the visiting alumni members.
Fans are invited to fill the stands! If you cannot play, come cheer and give all Alumni players a fun game underneath the lights.

CASA recruiting volunteers in Spencer County
Court Appointed Special Advocates is recruiting new volunteers in the Spencer and Shelby county area to advocate in the court system for abused and neglected children. There are currently over 30 children waiting for a CASA volunteer in the Spencer and Shelby county area.
A volunteer training workshop will be held in August for persons interested in becoming a volunteer. Call 502-647-2155 or visit CASA’s website at www.CASARiverRegion.org to learn how you can make a difference in a child’s life.

Spencer County Preschool to hold screenings
Spencer County Preschool Early Childhood Screening will be held on August 15th and September 5th from 8:00-3:00. The Early Childhood screening is by appointment only! This will be the only scheduled Preschool screening prior to the start of the 2014/2015 school year. ORNAIC to hold classes at Extension Office
The Ohio River Native American Intertribal Community will begin craft classes on Aug. 3 for children and adults at the Spencer County Extension Building. Classes are free and no registration is necessary. During the classes there will be stories on Native American culture and an introduction to Cherokee Language. Classes begin at 2 p.m. after ORNAIC’s regularly scheduled meeting. All are welcome to attend.
Spencer County GOP to hold monthly
dinner Aug. 4
Spencer County GOP dinner/meeting on Aug 4, 6:30 p.m. for dinner and 7:00 p.m. for the meeting. Meeting held at the Kentucky Farm Bureau office, 695 Taylorsville Rd.

Open house at the middle school
Spencer County Middle School will be hosting its open house for sixth graders Aug. 11 from 6-7:30 p.m. and Aug. 7 for seventh and eighth graders from 6-7:30 p.m.

Allen Dennis Memorial scramble set
The annual Allen Dennis Memorial Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9 at Tanglewood Golf Course in Taylorsville. Benefits from the scramble will go to the Allen Dennis Scholarship Fund..
The fee for the scramble is $50 per player or $200 per team. The scramble will feature a shotgun start at 8 a.m.

Country ham
Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #210 will have an all-you-can-eat country ham breakfast from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. Saturday. The breakfast is $7 per person. Carry-out is available. Everyone is welcome.
MPCAA to offer arthritis exercise
Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency is now Offering an Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program at its senior center located at 44 Creekside Drive in Taylorsville. This program is a low-impact physical activity program proven to reduce pain and decrease stiffness.
The routines include gentle range-of-motion exercises that are suitable for every fitness level. Program will be offered each Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. now through August 7.

The program is free for any person 60 and older and small nominal fee for anyone under 60 of $2 per 1 hour class.

Autumn Nights Fundraiser for Christmas on Main
The Christmas on Main Street Committee is hosting a fundraising country/western themed dance entitled “Autumn Nights” for Christmas on Main Street. The event will be Saturday Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Taylorsville Chamber of Commerce Building, 19 East Main St., Taylorsville. Refreshments will be served and a DJ will be on hand to play tunes. Cost for the event is $10 per person or $15 per couple. Children are welcome, those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Advance tickets are available at the tea cup or by calling 422-1537 or 354-1863, tickets will also be available at the door.
