Trick or Treat photos available for pickup
If you purchased a photo (or two, or three) at Trick or Treat on Main Street, the photos are available for pickup at the Spencer Magnet office, 100 W. Main St. in Taylorsville.
Our office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Board of elections to meet
The Spencer County Board of Elections will meet Thursday at 3 p.m. in the County Clerk’s office.

SCHS cheerleaders to host ‘competition for a cause’ Saturday
The Spencer County High School Cheerleaders are hosting the “Spencer County SOUPerstar Cheer Competition: Competing for a Cause,” on Saturday.
Doors open at 9 a.m., and the competition begins at 9:30.
The event has been labeled the “SOUPerstar” competition because each of the 17 squads signed up to perform and compete has been challenged to bring cans of soup or stews to be donated to local food pantries. The squad collecting the most cans will earn T-shirts, said Spencer County Cheer Coach Eleschia Murphy.
Admission is $7 or $5 with a can of soup donation.
Money raised from admission fees will go toward the cost of uniforms, Murphy said.
Cheerleading squads will compete during the event, and several dance squads will be on hand to perform.
Local squads participating include the Spencer County Middle School cheer squad, the Spencer County High School junior varsity dance team, the SCHS varsity dance team and the SCHS coed cheer squad.

Drivers license testing notice
Due to the Thanksgiving holiday being on Thursday, drivers license permit testing will be on Wednesday, Nov. 21, between 8 and 10 a.m. Road skills testing will be at noon.
Motorcycle road tests have been discontinued and will resume again in the spring. Dates will be announced at a later time.

Magnet office to close for Thanksgiving
The Spencer Magnet office will be closed Thursday, Nov. 22, and Friday, Nov. 23, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
These closing will not affect advertising deadlines for either the Nov. 21 or Nov. 28 editions. The deadline will remain at noon on Monday for each week’s paper.

Circuit Clerk’s office closed for Thanksgiving
The Spencer County Circuit Clerk’s Office will be closed Thursday, Nov. 22, and Friday, Nov. 23, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.  The office will reopen on Monday, Nov. 26 at 7:30 a.m.

SCHS dance team to host ‘Mom’s Day Out’ fundraiser
The Spencer County High School dance team is hosting a “Mom’s Day Out” fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 24, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event is open to potty-trained preschoolers through fifth-grade students. The cost is $30 for half a day or $50 for the whole day.
Lunch and a snack will be provided.
Informational fliers on the event will be sent home with students at the elementary schools a week prior to the event.
The deadline to sign up is Nov. 21.

MPCAA board to meet
Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency’s Board of Directors will meet on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Spencer County Fiscal Court Room located in Taylorsville. The public is invited to attend. Multi-Purpose CAA provides services in Bullitt, Shelby and Spencer Counties.

SCHS Student Council to host blood drive
The Spencer County High School Student Council is hosting its annual fall blood drive on Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 7:30 a.m. to noon in the high school gym.
Donors must be 16 years of age or older.
Community members are encouraged to “give thanks, give life, give blood at the blood drive this year,” organizers said.

Second levee meeting set for Nov. 27
A meeting to discuss issues regarding the Taylorsville levee is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 6:30 p.m.
The meeting will take place in the fiscal court meeting room.

Chamber accepting Citizen of the Year nominees
The Taylorsville-Spencer County Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting nominations for the 2012 Citizen of the Year.
Anyone in the community is invited to nominate a person they believe worthy of the award.
Nominations will be accepted through Dec. 1 and should be sent to Chamber President Cara Lewis at P.O. Box 555, Taylorsville, Ky. 40071, or emailed to president@spencercountykychamber.com.
Nominations should include a short description detailing the nominee’s accomplishments.

Christmas on Main to host wreath decorating contests
This year, Taylorsville Christmas on Main Street will feature a wreath and mini-tree decorating contest.
The contest is open to everyone from businesses, clubs, organizations to individuals and families. There is no fee to enter, and entries can be dropped off at the Chamber of Commerce on Friday, Dec. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The entries will be on display during Christmas on Main Street on Saturday, Dec. 8.
The divisions are as follows: Division 1: Live Wreath; Division 2: Artificial Wreath; Division 3: Live or Artificial Mini Tree (mini trees cannot exceed 24” tall).
