2013 Relay for Life kick off Thursday
The 2013 Spencer County Relay for Life kick off is Thursday, 6:30 p.m., at Taylorsville United Methodist Church. Taylorsville UMC is located at 145 W. Main Street. The meeting has a Thanksgiving theme and attendants are asked to bring their favorite Thanksgiving food!

SCHS yard sale to benefit scholarship fund
Spencer County High School will host a large, indoor yard sale on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria.
The sale is accepting a voluntary $1 admission price, and all proceeds from the sale will go toward the 2013 Senior Scholarship Fund.

FCCLA announces calendar contest
Spencer County High School FCCLA’s annual calendar contest will be Saturday starting at 6 p.m. in the Spencer County Middle School’s Auditorium. Tickets are $5.

Rec league basketball signups
Spencer County Recreational Basketball League is having signups Saturday at Spencer County Middle School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for K-eighth grade. For more information, contact Bart Stark at 262-6912, Brad Coulter at 422-0669, Brian Spencer at 376-9850 or Charles Beard at 477-0558.

Boys’ basketball team to host camp
Spencer County High School Boys’ Basketball will host a one day camp on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. The camp is available to all children from K-seventh grade. The cost of the camp will be $20 per child.
“This will be a great opportunity to learn basic fundamentals of basketball and to help your Spencer County High School Boys Basketball program,” organizers said.

Bazaar at Fisherville Baptist
Fisherville Baptist Church is hosting a bazaar on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event will feature crafts, miscellaneous booths and food for sale.
The church is located at 14910 Taylorsville Road in Fisherville.

Circuit Clerk’s office to close Monday for Veterans Day
The Spencer County Circuit Clerk’s Office will be closed Monday in observance of Veterans Day. The office will reopen Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 a.m.

SCHS plans Veteran’s Day assembly
Spencer County High School will host a veteran’s day assembly on Monday starting at 8:30 a.m. Local veterans and their families are welcome to attend. There will be light refreshments served following the assembly.

Red Cross blood drive
An American Red Cross blood drive is planned for Tuesday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the fellowship hall in First Baptist Church.

Hosparus to host volunteer training
Hosparus needs volunteers to provide patient and family support and assistance with its bereavement program in Louisville and surrounding areas, including Spencer County. Hosparus will host a free volunteer training in Louisville, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 3532 Ephraim McDowell Drive. Lunch is provided.

Red Scooter announces Gingerbread House Contest
The Red Scooter is hosting its annual Gingerbread House Contest and houses need to be turned in on or before Nov. 17. Complete contest rules will be available later and posted in The Red Scooter. Adults, as well as students, are encouraged to enter.

SCHS dance team to host ‘Mom’s Day Out’
The Spencer County High School dance team is hosting a “Mom’s Day Out” fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 24, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event is open to potty-trained preschoolers through fifth-grade students. The cost is $30 for half a day or $50 for the whole day.
Lunch and a snack will be provided.
Informational fliers on the event will be sent home with students at the elementary schools a week prior to the event.
The deadline to sign up is Nov. 21.

MPCAA board to meet
Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency’s Board of Directors will meet on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Spencer County Fiscal Court Room located in Taylorsville. The public is invited to attend. Multi-Purpose CAA provides services in Bullitt, Shelby and Spencer Counties.

Citizen of the Year nominees
The Taylorsville-Spencer County Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting nominations for the 2012 Citizen of the Year. Nominations will be accepted through Dec. 1 and should be sent to Chamber President Cara Lewis at P.O. Box 555, Taylorsville, Ky. 40071, or emailed to president@spencercountykychamber.com. Nominations should include a short description detailing the nominee’s accomplishments.

‘Tree of Life’  at First Baptist
The Community Choir will once again present the “Tree of Life” Christmas choral presentation at First Baptist Church Dec.7-9. Two performances will be held each night at 5:30 and 8 p.m.
