SCHS band taking Thanksgiving turkey, holiday ham orders
The Spencer County High School band is currently hosting its Thanksgiving fundraiser, accepting orders for fully cooked 9- to 10-pound boneless sage dressing marinated turkey breasts. Boneless cooked turkey breats are $55. Raw 9-pound boneless turkey breasts are $37. Pumpkin spice bundt cakes can be ordered for $23. Orders are due today and can be picked up after school Nov. 21.
The band is also hosting its holiday ham fundraiser, accepting orders for 9- to 10-pound honey spiral bone-in sliced hams. Hams are $35. Peppermint stack desserts can be ordered for $18, as well.
These orders are due Nov. 10 for pickup after school on Dec. 12.

Circuit Clerk’s office open late today, to close early Thursday
The Spencer County Circuit Clerk’s Office will be open until 6 p.m. today instead of its normal Thursday late hours for Driver’s License. This is due to the closing of Main Street at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday for Trick or Treat on Main Street, which runs from 5-8 p.m.

Board of Elections meeting moved to Thursday
The regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the Spencer County Board of Elections will be changed to Thursday at 8:30 a.m. in the clerk’s office. Call 477-3215 for more information.
MPCAA to offer Zumba Gold
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency will offer Zumba Gold classes for active adults. Ages 60 and over are admitted free. Ages 50-59 will be charged a $2 admission fee.
Classes are scheduled for 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Mount Eden Ruritan to host annual fish fry
The Mount Eden Ruritan Club will host its annual pre-election day fish fry Friday at 5:30 p.m. Fish and fixings will be offered for $10 per plate.
Masonic Lodge to host ham breakfast
Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #210 will host an all-you-can-eat country ham breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday. The breakfast is $7 per person. Carry-out is available. Everyone is welcome.
Eighth annual Veterans Ceremony set for Saturday
Guard Duty, a local organization supporting military veterans, invites the public to come out Saturday morning to honor military veterans who have served our nation.
Guard Duty’s Veterans Celebration will feature the annual Guard Duty Veterans Honor Service which will be hosted by Grace Chapel Church, 60 Ray Road, Taylorsville, at 10 a.m. followed by veterans reporting to and lining up at the City Hall Annex parking lot for the Guard Duty’s Veterans Honor Walk with the route leading down Main Street.
The veterans walk will begin at approximately 11:15 a.m. The public is asked to come out and applaud them as they pass by.
The veterans and public will then honor all deceased veterans with the ceremony, “Laying of the Wreaths,” at the war memorial on Main Street.
The public is also invited to Guard Duty’s Veterans Reception hosted by First Baptist Church, Main Street, where they can meet and thank our veterans.
Guest speaker will be Maj. Gen. Robert S. Silverthorn, retired.

Spencer County EMS will host an open house at its new headquarters on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The community is invited.
Saddle Club to host Halloween dance, contest
The Mount Eden Saddle Club will host a halloween dance and costume contest on Saturday at the Mount Eden Ruritan building at 8 p.m.
Silver Wings Band will play from 8 to midnight. Admission is $5 for adults, children age 6 and under are admitted free, and members are admitted free.
The contest will be for the scariest costume, funniest costume and cutest kid under 12.
The 2014 officer election is planned for 6:30 p.m.
Proceeds from the dance will be used to buy Christmas gifts for community children in need.

Craft fair at high school to benefit Project Grad
Spencer County High School Project Graduation is hosting a fall craft fair Saturday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the school, 520 Taylorsville Road.
Any crafters wishing to participate must reserve a booth for $20 in advance by calling Michele Barlow at 477-3250 or 262-5214. Booths will be located in the cafeteria and hall. Approximate booth size is 12 feet by 10 feet and includes one table.
Crafters keep their profits. Concessions will be offered by Project Graduation only. No other concession booths will be allowed.
Blood drive at Grace Chapel
The American Cancer Society is hosting a blood drive Monday at Grace Chapel Church of God of Prophecy from 2 to 7 p.m.
Fiscal Court meeting moved to Nov. 6
Because of a scheduling conflict, the Spencer County Fiscal Court meeting normally scheduled for 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 4 has been moved to 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6. The meeting will take place in the Fiscal Court meeting room and is open to the public.
Retired teachers to host legislative meeting
The Spencer County Retired Teachers Association will hold its legislative meeting Nov. 7, 6:30 p.m., at First Baptist Church in Taylorsville. Senator Jimmy Higdon will be the keynote speaker.
Concert for Heroes to benefit Wounded Warrior Project
Spencer Countians are sponsoring a concert and dinner fundraiser to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project on Friday, Nov. 8, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Wildwood Country Club on Bardstown Road in Louisville.
Music will be provided by Taylorsville native J.D. Shelburne.
Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased by calling Kim Dunkelberger at 502-477-1738 or Beverly Hill 502-295-0950. The deadline for reservations is Monday, Nov. 4.

Chamber accepting Citizen of the Year nominations
The Taylorsville-Spencer County Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting nominations for the 2013 Citizen of the Year. Anyone in the community is invited to nominate a person they believe worthy of the award. Nominations must be received by November 29 and should be sent to Chamber President Cara Lewis at P.O. Box 555, Taylorsville, Ky. 40071, or emailed to email@example.com. Nominations should include a short description detailing the nominee’s accomplishments.
Adult Ed offers college, GED prep classes
College and GED preparation classes are available at the Spencer County Adult Education Center, located at 406 Main Cross in Taylorsville.
Classes are offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings as well as Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

The Spencer County Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency Senior Life Enrichment Center, located at 44 Creekside Drive, is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for community members ages 60 and older.
