Letters to Santa due today
The Spencer Magnet will be once again publishing children’s Letters to Santa. To ensure that the staff at the North Pole receive all those requests in time, the Magnet requests that all letters be submitted via e-mail by Wednesday, December 10. Letters can be sent to Robin Bass at email@example.com. Please only students in grades kindergarden through third grade.
Taylorsville VFW Post #11426 and the Ladies Auxiliary have their monthly meeting tomorrow at 7 p.m.
TES drama presentation
Taylorsville Elementary School will present “I Need a Little Christmas Vacation” Thursday at 7 p.m. in the gym. Please bring a can of food to donate to the TES Bookbag Buddies Program.
Items will be collected by TES Community Engagement Club. The production will be presented by TES chorus, music ensemble, and drama club.
The Chamber of Commerce luncheon will be held tomorrow at noon. There will be a discussion of Chamber business as well as the information center. Election of executive officers for next year will also be held. You must be a member in order to vote.
4-H pork chop
The 4-H Meats Judging team will be having a pork chop dinner Friday from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in front of Valley Productions on Main Street. Dinner includes a boneless pork chop sandwich, chips, beverage and cookie for just $7. Proceeds will be used for the team to go to the national contest in Denver CO. The team thanks you for your support!
The drama classes of SCHS will present a drama showcase Friday at 7 p.m. at Spencer County Middle School’s auditorium. There will be free desserts in the foyer at intermission. Come and support SCHS Drama with your presence. Tickets are $3 for 13 and older. There is no charge for 12 years old and under.
The showcase will include a selection of scenes from popular plays and movies, including Alice in Wonderland, Mean Girls, The Phantom of the Opera, Twilight, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and more! It is student-performed, student-directed, and all technical aspects will be run by the students as well.
The Bullitt-Spencer counties American Red Cross will offer the following safety training:
First aid - tomorrow
CPR recertification - Dec. 15
Each class being offered will begin at 6 p.m. and last until 10 p.m. Red Cross will now recertify CPR up to one year past the expiration date of the certificate. Participants must pre-register and pre-pay to attend. Please call the Shepherdsville office at 955-6259 for more information.

Visit with Santa
Santa will be at both branches of Peoples Bank Saturday, December 20 from 9 a.m. until noon. For a picture with Santa, bring your camera.
The Finchville Ruritan Club will be having its annual children’s Christmas Party December 20 at 6 p.m. There will be refreshments and snacks served. Pictures will be taken with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Gifts and door prizes will be given out. All children are invited to attend.
The Finchville Ruritan Club, is located on Hwy. 55, in Finchville, about 4 1/2 miles, south from 64, or about 5 1/2 miles, north, from the light in Elk Creek.
The Spencer County Clerk’s office will be closed December 24, 25, 26, and 27 for the Christmas holiday and January 1, 2, and 3 for the New Year’s holiday and year end shut down in Frankfort.
Drivers’ license testing
Due to the holidays of Christmas and New Years falling on Thursdays, testing will be on the following days:

As a reminder to all teen drivers ages 16/17, you are required by law to present to the examiner at the time of the road test your eligibility letter and drivers log which should consist of fifty (50) hours of daytime driving and ten (10) hours of nighttime driving. The eligibility letter must be printed off the computer within a seven day period prior to taking the road test. The Web site is as follows: eligibility.gdl.kytc.ky.gov.
If you fail to present the aforementioned letter no road test will be given.
St. Francis Xavier benefit dance
St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, located at 155 Stringer Lane in Mount Washington, will be having a benefit dance from 9 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. December 31 in the Parish hall. Cost is $10 per single and $20 per couple. Favors, snacks and soft drinks will be provided. DJ will be Daniel Hawkins and his lovely assistant Angela. The VFW Post 11426 and Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting a chili cook-off open to the public on January 17 from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The entries will be judged and a first and second monetary award will be given. All entries need to be at the Post (106 Washington St.) by 3:30 p.m. After the judging you may purchase a bowl of chili for $3. You will also have the opportunity to bid on some homemade pies and cakes. So come out for a fun Saturday evening with your taste buds geared up for some fantastic homemade chili. Families in need
Do you have some furniture piled up in the basement that you just aren’t using and probably never will? The Spencer County Family Resource Center has a few families that are in need of furniture. To donate, call Becky Wilson at 477-3202 or 477-0199.
Help for addictions
Lighthouse Baptist Church offers a faith-based program designed to help break the bonds of addiction. Meetings of Reformers Unanimous are held each Friday from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the church, located at 88 Miller Road. Personal and group counseling are provided. Other free services include transportation, nursery and childcare. Call 477-8600 to schedule transportation.
The Spencer County Lions Club meets on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at Elk Creek Restaurant and Grocery beginning at 7 p.m.
Spencer County Lifeline
Alcohol-Drug Treatment Series and Anger Management classes will be held each Saturday from 12 noon until 2:30 p.m. at 755 Taylorsville Road in Settlers Center. A registration fee will be charged to enroll you in the classes. Classes are provided by House of Prayer Apostolic Church and are offered at no charge but you must be enrolled to participate. AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meetings are being held each Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, located at 410 Main Cross Street in Taylorsville, and each Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the VFW Post on Washington Street.
AL-ANON meetings are being held each Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Taylorsville United Methodist Church.
