Community Baby Shower

If you are pregnant, or have a child under one year old, you are invited to attend the 5th annual community baby shower at the Spencer County Extension office and at the Spencer County Health Department Friday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. with a special presentation, baby gifts and prizes from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

The October meeting of the Spencer County Historical and Genealogical Society will be Monday, October 26, at 7 p.m. at the Spencer County Library.  Those interested in learning more about Spencer County’s history and tracing their family trees are welcome to attend.

Road paving

Spencer County residents should be advised that lane closures and delays are possible on KY 2867 (Kings Highway) between KY 395 and KY 1472 (mile points 0 and 2.5) due to roadway resurfacing. Halloween party at Signature HealthCARE

Signature HealthCARE of Spencer County will host a Halloween event Tuesday, October 27 for the community, residents, and employees starting at 6 p.m.  There will be games, trick or treating, and delicious food!  This is a free event. Lunch and Learn: Women’s Cancer Awareness


The Spencer County Extension Office will be holding a Lunch and Learn program October 29 from noon until 1 p.m. to raise awareness about cervical and breast cancer for women in the community. The program is free. Please call the Spencer County Extension Office to sign up at 477-2217.

Cody Goodlett benefit silent


A silent benefit auction will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, October 30 at the Spencer County High School to benefit Cody Goodlett. Tickets are $10. There will be a Sock Hop featuring multiple bands including the Marlin Brothers. Concessions will be available.

SCYBA elections meeting

The SCYBA (Spencer County Youth Baseball Association) elections will be held November 1, at 2 p.m. at Ray Jewell Park.

VFW Ladies


chili supper

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary will be having a chili supper from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. November 6 at the VFW Post. For more information please call Frankie Bramer at 502-477-6441. The VFW Post is located at 106 Washington St.

Gingerbread House Contest

The gingerbread house contest will be held in conjunction with Christmas on Main Street.  Entries should be turned in at The Red Scooter any time between Mon., Nov. 9, and Fri., Nov. 20.  Complete rules will be published in The Spencer Magnet in the next week or two, and can also be picked up at the Red Scooter.


Video project for Veterans Day

All veterans of different conflicts are invited to be part of a video project and then be part of a very special honor ceremony honoring them on November 7. For more information please call DJ at 502-442-5462.

Veterans Day celebration needs participants

Vendors and organizations are needed to be part of the Veterans Day military show, “Defenders”. Churches and organizations are encouraged to enter floats, ride, or walk as a group to honor the veterans and their families during the Veterans Day Parade.  Horse clubs are welcomed as long as they can pick up after their horses. Guard Duty’s 2009 Veterans Celebration will be held November 7 beginning with a  Veterans Honor Service at 10 a.m. at Lighthouse Baptist Church followed by a parade at noon in downtown Taylorsville. Then take your kids to “Defenders”  from 1 p.m until 3 p.m. for a military show with food, fun, crafts, music, and car show at Spencer County High School with a special tribute for our fallen heroes.  Admission is free. Donate to Shop-With-A-Cop

Christmas is coming soon and with your help the Spencer County Sheriff’s office is going to take some of our needy children shopping. Donate to any Sheriff’s deputy or at the Sheriff’s office. Make checks payable to  Spencer County Sheriff, c/o Shop-With-A-Cop. Donations may be mailed to: Spencer County Sheriff, PO Box 475, Taylorsville KY, 40071, or dropped off at the Sheriff’s office. Your donation is greatly appreciated. 100% of all donations goes to the children.


Farmers Market

The Taylorsville Farmers Market is open Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. until no later than noon and is located in the lot by T and R Antiques.  There is also a Wednesday morning market from 8 a.m. until no later than noon.  It is located on Industrial Drive behind Citizens Union Bank.

Senior Center activities

The Multi Purpose Community Action Senior Center is the place to be for ages 60 and older. There is food, crafts, games, and education. Lunch is served daily. Please call by 11 a.m. the day before to let them know you will be having lunch. Transportation is provided Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The facility is located at 44 Creekside Drive in Taylorsville and is open from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. For more information, please call Linda at 477-8296.

Help for


Lighthouse Baptist Church offers a faith-based program designed to help break the bonds of addiction. Meetings of Reformers Unanimous are held each Friday from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the church, located at 88 Miller Road. Personal and group counseling are provided. Other free services include transportation, nursery and childcare. Call 477-8600 to schedule transportation.
