Gingerbread House Contest
The gingerbread house contest will be held in conjunction with Christmas on Main Street. Entries should be turned in at The Red Scooter any time between until Friday.
Main Street Christmas Decorating and Community Tree Planting
Meet at 8 a.m. Saturday on Main Street in front of the Tea Cup. Dozens of trees will be planted at the High School, Fire House and along city streets. Bring your shovel if you want to plant trees or just show up if you can help decorate Main Street. Call John if you have questions 502-773-5419.
Spencer County Historical Society’s Social
The next meeting of the Spencer County Historical and Genealogical Society will be Monday, November 23, at 7 p.m. at the Spencer County Library. Those attending are asked to bring a snack and a mysterious antique relic. Maybe, you can baffle the history experts when they try to guess your antique’s original purpose. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Holiday dates for drivers license testing
Attention parents and prospective teenage drivers, CDL and motorcycle applicants. Because Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s all fall on Thursdays this year, the drivers license testing will be held on November 25, December 23, and December 30 at the regular times. All teen drivers ages 16/17 are required, by law, to present to the examiner, at the time of the road test, an eligibility letter and drivers log which should consist of 50 hours of daytime driving and 10 hours of nighttime driving. The eligibility letter must be printed off the computer within a seven day period prior to taking the road test. The web site address is: https://eligibility.gdl.kytc.ky.gov. If you fail to present the aforementioned letter no road test will be given.
Post office closed for holiday
The Taylorsville Post Office will be closing at noon on Wednesday Nov. 25 and open for their regular hours on Friday November 27 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Regular mail delivery for Nov. 25 and Nov. 27 will be unaffected by the change. Post Offices will be closed Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 26, and there will be no regular mail delivery except for Express Mail.
County Clerk’s office closed for holiday
The Spencer County Clerk’s office will be closed Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 26, 27, and 28 in observance of Thanksgiving. Regular hours will resume Monday, November 30.
Circuit Clerk’s office closed for holiday
The Spencer County Circuit Court Clerk’s office will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27, in observance of Thanksgiving. Regular hours will resume Monday, November 30.
Santa Claus at the Red Scooter
Santa Claus will be at the Red Scooter December 5 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Get your picture taken with Santa for $5.
Louisville Youth Orchestra auditions
Auditions for the Louisville Youth Orchestra will be held for all interested brass players on December 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the Youth Performing Arts School. Call 502-896-1851 to register.
Christmas Tree contest and auction
The Christmas Tree Contest and Auction will be held December 11. Help the Main Street program by donating a decorated tree, wreath, or centerpiece. Items will be on display from December 5 thru December 11. They will be auctioned after Christmas on Main Street. Items should be brought to the Sanctuary by December 5. Holiday day camp for kids
The education department at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, 715 West Main Street, will host a Holiday Camp for Kids on Saturday, December 5 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Students will explore the process of silk painting, and also work with polymer clay to create a millefiore or mosaic patterned gift. The day camp gives parents a chance to go shopping without the kids, catch up around the house, or just relax. The cost is $40 for museum members and $45 for non-members. Donate to Shop-With-A-Cop
Christmas is coming soon and with your help the Spencer County Sheriff’s office is going to take some of our needy children shopping. Donate to any Sheriff’s deputy or at the Sheriff’s office. Make checks payable to Spencer County Sheriff, c/o Shop-With-A-Cop. Donation may be mailed to Spencer County Sheriff, PO Box 475, Taylorsville KY, 40071, or dropped off at the Sheriff’s office. Your donation is greatly appreciated. 100% of all donations goes to the children.
Story time at the Library
Story time at the Spencer County Library will be held through the school year. When school is out for holidays, breaks, or inclement weather, there will not be story time. Story time is held on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for toddlers through preschool and at 6:30 p.m. for children preschool through first grade.
First Baptist Church on Main Street in Taylorsville is offering free tutoring in basic reading and math skills for students in Grades 1 – 8. Tutors will be available on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. until noon. Please enter through the Agape door at the side parking lot. New students should come at 9:45 to allow registration time. All are welcome.
Home delivered meals
The Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency provides home delivered meals to senior citizens through the Spencer County Senior Life Enrichment Center. Seniors aged 60 and over that are homebound and are unable to prepare a meal may be eligible to receive the service. If you are interested or know of a senior that could use the service, please call Linda at 477-8296 to complete an intake form over the phone.
Multi-Purpose CAA has many other senior support services and they encourage you to call and ask about what might be available to assist you or your elderly loved ones.
