The Chamber of Commerce lunch will be held tomorrow at noon. Taylorsville City Mayor Don Pay will be guest speaker. On the way Cafe will be catering and the cost will be $6.00 per person. Please RSVP.
Lenten fish fry
Lenten Friday night fish fry will be held every Friday through Lent from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at All Saints Catholic Church. All proceeds will go to charitable works in our community by the Knights of Columbus. All Saints Catholic Church is located at 410 Main Cross.
Waterford sports softball meeting
The Waterford Sports Softball Leagues at Waterford Park will have a meeting at 7 p.m. March 23 at Ray Jewell Field. Co-ed leagues will play on Mondays, men’s teams will play on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Any church or local team can contact L.Gray at 477-8728 or R. Wise at 376-9850 for more information. Leagues will start May 1.
Starting on March 24 there will be a healthy eating/weight loss group meeting on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m at Risen Lord Church, located at 5138 Taylorsville Rd. There will be ½ hour of Bible study/encouragement and then a ½ hour of a walking program (video). The cost is $15. Call Julie at 502-477-6557 to make a reservation and order materials.
Historical Society’s annual dinner
Pen Bogert will present a program on Ennis Wooton, a blacksmith, who lived in Taylorsville during the Civil War in the 1850s.
Bogert received a B.A. in history from Midwestern University. He worked at the Filson Historical Society from 1996 - 2006 as a reference specialist, assisting genealogists, historians, local history societies, and owners of historic properties. His research interests include African American history, particularly the history of slave trading in Kentucky and the activities of the Underground Railroad in our state. Since 2008, he has worked for the city of Bardstown as preservation administrator for the Bardstown Historic District. Bogert is married to Brenda Hines from Spencer County.
The annual dinner meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 23, at the Elk Creek Restaurant. The cost is $17. The public is welcome to attend, reservations are required before Saturday. For reservations call Hilda Snider at 477-2980.
Extension District Board meeting
The Spencer County Extension District Board will be meeting March 27 at 11 a.m. at the Spencer County Extension office. Items to be discussed include the approval of an engineering firm for possible new location and finalization of the 2009-10 budget. Please call 477-2217 for more information.
Strutters chapter banquet
The Salt River Strutters Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will be holding their annual Hunting Heritage Banquet on March 28 at the Spencer County Middle School. Doors open at 6 p.m. For ticket information call Nancy Thomas at 477-5862 or Ernie Ryles at 680-1166.
Spaghetti supper and silent auction
The Multi Purpose Community Action Senior Center, located at 44 Creekside Drive, is having a spaghetti supper and silent auction April 3 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The cost of the meal is $7 per plate. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Bids for the silent auction items will close at 7:30 p.m. and you must be present at the time to pay for your item(s) and to collect them. Kings Baptist Church Annual Easter Egg Hunt
The annual Kings Baptist Church Easter egg hunt will be from 10 a.m until noon April 4 rain or shine in the Christian Life Center. There will be puppets, music, crafts, games, candy and food. The egg hunts will be divided by age and grade so that everyone involved can enjoy the hunt. Parents and/or adults must attend with the children and supervise them at all times. Everyone is invited. Honor your military service person this May. A special video tribute is being produced for May 2009 for Armed Forces recognition. Call Rita at 502-477-8049 or DJ at 477-7989 for more information. It’s as simple as having your spouse, son, daughter, or friend who is now serving, send their video greeting that they record on a computer and then emailing it to email@example.com. Deadline is April 1.
Carnival for a cure
Spencer County will be hosting its first “Carnival for a Cure” in downtown Taylorsville April 25. All proceeds will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Vendors, parade participants involving any childrens groups,church floats, bands, etc are needed. Every organization involving children is welcome! This will be a fun day of kids games, food, pony rides, inflatables, and a petting zoo!
