Clerk’s office announces upcoming closings
The Spencer County Clerk’s Office will be closed on the following days:
• Nov. 2 for Election Day. Only election-related business will be conducted that day. Regular business hours will resume Nov. 3 at 8 a.m.
• Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day and Nov. 12 due to office renovations. The office will reopen for regular business Nov. 15 at 8 a.m.
Spencer County GOP upcoming events
• The next monthly meeting of the Spencer County GOP will be held Nov. 1 at the Party Headquarters, located at 165 E Main Street. The meeting will include a pizza party and our guest speaker will be State Representative Brad Montell.

• The Spencer County GOP will host a Campaign vigil party on Nov. 2 at the Chamber of Commerce building starting at 6 p.m. Free bar-b-que, chili, bean soup and various other treats will be served.
• Senator Mitch McConnell, U.S. Senate Minority Leader, will visit the Spencer County GOP Headquarters on Oct 30. McConnell plans to visit to thank all the volunteers and supporters for their hard work and tireless efforts on the behalf of the Republican candidates for federal, state, and local races, and to acknowledge all the candidates present that day. Absolute charity auction
Spencer County Habitat for Humanity will be holding an absolute charity auction Saturday at 10 a.m. in the old IGA building across from the high school. All proceeds to benefit current local home build.
Items included are cabinets, kitchen sinks and countertops, replacement windows, electric stove top, window sashes, solid oak entertainment centers, baby bed, bed frames, storage shelves, children’s furniture , dog crates, old school desks and much more.
Preview will be 8:30 a.m. the day of the auction.
HalloTween Time at the Spencer County Library
Join the Spencer County Library Thursday at 6:30 for a Tween Workshop “How to Tell Scary Stories and the Perfect Pumpkin Pie Party”. Learn tips about how to tell stories to scare your friends, as well as how to write them. There will be an open mic if you want to try your stories out on the group. All the fixings will be provided to make your own no-bake perfect pumpkin pie.
4-H to sponsor haunted trail
The 4-H Shooting Sports and Teen Council will be putting on a Haunted Trail Friday at the Fish and Game Club.
Several Teen Council members designed the trail.

Guard Duty to host Veterans Celebration
Guard Duty’s fifth-annual Veterans Celebration is scheduled for Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. The family-friendly event will honor the men and women who have served the United States of America.
Community members are invited to come and support and celebrate veterans. The event will be held at Grace Chapel on Ray Road.
Attendants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and flags to use during the Veterans Parade in downtown Taylorsville at noon. The parade will be followed by a public reception at Grace Chapel at 1 p.m.
Fall roadside litter pickup
The county will host its annual fall roadside litter pickup starting in November. All non-profit groups that wish to participate can come by the Taylorsville-Spencer County Joint Planning and Zoning Commission office at 220 Main Cross Street the last week of October to sign up, get supplies and fill out the necessary paperwork.
The Planning and Zoning office is open Mondays through Fridays, 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

State park Halloween event
Taylorsville Lake State Park offers a safe and spooktacular way to celebrate the Halloween holiday at Happy Halloween. Activities include hayrides, campsite decoration, trick or treating, the ever-popular outdoor scary movie for campers at their campground. Activities begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Call 502-477-8713.
Salato Center hosts annual Halloween event
Ghosts and goblins of all ages can join the fun at the Salato Wildlife Education Center’s Halloween Walk with the Animals in Frankfort from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission to this kid-safe, trick-or-treat event is $5 per person.
The event is most appropriate for kids under the age of 11 and their parents. Little trick-or-treaters are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes. For more information, call 1-800-858-1549, ext. 4445.
Signature HealthCARE to host Halloween party
Signature HealthCARE of Spencer County is hosting a Halloween party Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
The free event is open to the community and will include a cake walk, face painting, games and a costume contest for all ages. Trick-or-treating will be around 7:30 p.m.
Hotdogs, nachos and chips will be available.

The 16th Annual FCCLA Calendar Contest will be held at Spencer County High School Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. in the gymnasium.
Fair board to meet Nov. 9
The Spencer County Fair Board will hod a meeting Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at
Valley Productions on Main Street.
Gingerbread house contest
The Red Scooter on Main Street will again host its gingerbread-making contest in conjunction with Christmas on Main Street and the Christmas Home Tour.
Official rules will soon be released. There is no cost to participate.

The Spencer County Elementary School will host its annual fall festival family fun night Friday, Oct. 29.

Nominate a Healthy Hero
Spencer County Healthy Heroes 2010, sponsored by the Family and Consumer Science Extension Council, are asking for nominations of individuals, agencies or groups that are contributing to the well-being of themselves or others by making healthy strides and/or implementing or offering positive lifestyle choices. Nominations can be submitted to
Allison Lewis at the extension office by the last day of each month.
Christmas on Main needs volunteers

Children’s story time
Story Time at the Spencer County Library will be held each Tuesday, while school is in session, the library will have two story times for children 6 and under. The morning session is at 10:30 a.m. and the evening session is at 6:30 p.m.
Story Time is designed to encourage reading and learning in young children. Each session will last about an hour and includes reading aloud from a selection of books, crafts, music and activities for the children. For more information, please call 477-8137.
