Valley Cemetery Stockholders meeting

The stockholders of Valley Cemetery will meet January 29 at 7 p.m. for the purpose of electing 5 people for the Board of Directors for a two-year term.

Spencer County Youth Football  

Attention: All parents of Stallions football players and cheerleaders the Spencer County Youth Football Association Board is requesting volunteer letters of intent for assistant coaches and head coaches for the 2010 season of Stallions football. You must send a letter of intent to be considered for the coaching positions for the 2010 season.

Soccer sign-ups

Spencer County Soccer Association is accepting registrations for the Spring season.  Registration forms can be picked up at MicZees, Elk Creek grocery, and Dairy Queen. The deadline for submitting registrations forms is January 31.

GOP meeting

The next meeting of the Spencer County GOP will be Monday, February 1, at On the Way Cafe. Dinner off the menu at 6 p.m. followed by the business meeting at 7 p.m. We will be finalizing plans for the 2010 Lincoln Day Dinner as well as getting a final headcount for the event. GOP Lincoln Day dinner

This year’s Lincoln Day dinner will be held at Spencer County High School February 5. The keynote speaker for the evening will be the well respected and beloved former US Congressman Ron Lewis. Also attending and speaking will be US Senate candidates Rand Paul and Bill Johnson, Scott Jennings speaking on behalf of Trey Grayson,  US Congressman Brett Guthrie, State Senate candidates Paul Hornback and David Glauber, State Representatives Brad Montell and David Floyd, State Representative candidate Kim King, and many of our candidates for local offices in Spencer County. If you want to meet and talk, or just listen to these candidates, this is the perfect opportunity to do so close to home. Tickets to this event are $25.00 each. SC Youth Baseball/Softball sign-ups

2010 SCYBA Baseball and Softball signups will be held Feb. 6,13, and 20 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. upstairs at Ray Jewell Park.

Relay for Life 2010 team captain’s meeting

This year’s  first meeting for the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life 2010 will be held at 6:30 p.m. February 8 at the Farm Bureau Building.  Committee members as well as team captains are urged to attend.  We are looking for new teams as well as  volunteers who would like to help in the fight against cancer.   Our annual  event will be held in June at Spencer County High School. Please continue to watch the Team Captains Corner section on the website http://relayforlife.org/spencer for information and updates. Democratic forum

A forum for Young Democrats will be held Tuesday, February 9, at 6 p.m. at the Shelbyville Stratton Center with the Democratic Candidates for the 20th State Senate District.  Any young Democrat (age 35 and younger) in Bullitt, Shelby, or Spencer County is invited to attend and learn more about the Democratic State Senate candidates running for office. 

Healthy Heart Program

A modification of lifestyle habits, such as dietary changes and increased physical activity levels, can help in combating heart disease.  Join us on Thursday, February 18 from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. for Heart Healthy Cooking and Living at the Shelby County Extension office.  You will see cooking demonstrations and hear educational updates on taking charge of your health.  All participants will receive gifts such as cook booklets and product samples.  This multi-county program (Henry, Shelby, Spencer, and Oldham) will include heart-healthy food sampling.  Please reserve your spot at this FREE event by calling 502-633-4593.  Be good to your heart!  (If Shelby County Schools are closed this day due to inclement weather, this event will be canceled.)
