Cancer awareness

The Spencer County Extension Office will be holding a Lunch and Learn program tomorrow, from noon until 1 p.m. to raise awareness about cervical and breast cancer, for women in the community. The program is free. Please call the Spencer County Extension Office to sign up at 477-2217.

Halloween fun at the library

On Friday dress like your favorite book character and visit the Spencer County Library.  Tell a staff member or have them guess which character you are to win a prize.   

Cody Goodlett benefit

A silent benefit auction and fish fry will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Spencer County High School to benefit Cody Goodlett. Tickets are $10. There will be a Sock Hop featuring multiple bands including the Marlin Brothers. Concessions will be available.

Basketball Signups

This is the final weekend to sign up for Spencer County Parks and Recreation basketball. Signups will be held tomorrow from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Ray Jewell Park and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Waterford Park. The cost is $50 per child. Applications are available online at www.spencercountyky.gov under the Parks and Recreation link. For more information call Randy at 376-9850.

Trick or Treat on Main Street

The annual Trick or Treat on Main Street will be held Saturday from 5 p.m until 8 p.m. This event is sponsored by Police Chief Toby Lewis, Sheriff Steve Coulter, and Fire Chief Nathan Nation. You can also have your child’s picture taken by Debra Montgomery. Photo will be a 4x6 for a cost of $5.

O.R.N.A.I.C. meal and meeting

The Ohio River Native American Intertribal Community (ORNAIC) will be having their monthly meeting Sunday at the Spencer County Extension office on Spears Drive. There will be a fellowship meal and socializing from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. with the meeting starting at 4 p.m.  Everyone is welcome.

SCYBA elections meeting

The SCYBA (Spencer County Youth Baseball Association) elections will be held November 1, at 2 p.m. at Ray Jewell Park.

GOP meeting

The November meeting of the Spencer County GOP will be Monday at On The Way Café. Dinner off the menu at 6  p.m. followed by the business meeting at 7 p.m. Discussion to include  activities for the Veteran’s Day celebration and participation in the parade. Now is the perfect time to become involved in the Republican Party in Spencer County, as we look forward to, and prepare for the 2010 elections. Ladies Auxiliary chili supper

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary will be having a chili supper from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. November 6 at the VFW Post. For more information please call Frankie Bramer at 502-477-6441. The VFW Post is located at 106 Washington St.

 Video project for Veterans Day

All veterans of different conflicts are invited to be part of a video project and then be part of a very special honor ceremony honoring them on November 7. For more information please call DJ at 502-442-5462.

Veterans Day

Vendors and organizations are needed to be part of the Veterans Day military show, “Defenders”. Churches and organizations are encouraged to enter floats, ride, or walk as a group to honor the veterans and their families during the Veterans Day Parade.  Horse clubs are welcomed as long as they can pick up after their horses. Gingerbread House Contest

The gingerbread house contest will be held in conjunction with Christmas on Main Street.  Entries should be turned in at The Red Scooter any time between Mon., Nov. 9, and Fri., Nov. 20.

Entries must be your own creation and be of edible products

Base cannot extend more than 4 inches beyond actual building

Entrant’s name and class must be written or taped on bottom of the base

Adult Categories:

A1 – best gingerbread house over six inches in height

A2 – best gingerbread house six inches and under

A3 – best gingerbread house made from a kit

Junior Categories – Best Gingerbread house (any size)

J1 – ages 5 and under

J2 – ages 6-8

J3 – ages 9-12

J4 – ages 13-17

School projects:

Best Gingerbread house (any size)

Group or individual entries from any grade. Put grade and name(s) on each entry.

Group Category (what a great family project)

G1 – best group created gingerbread  house (any size)

Entries will be displayed in the Red Scooter during the annual Christmas Home Tour (Dec. 5) and Christmas on Main Street (Dec. 11)

Entries and prizes may be picked up after 3 p.m. on December 12.
