Mayoral debate

Spencer County Chamber of Commerce and the Spencer Magnet will be hosting a mayoral debate Thursday, Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. Candidates for Taylorsville mayor will participate in a question and answer format with some questions taken from the audience. The mayoral debate will take place in lieu of the regular chamber meeting. The Spencer County Chamber of Commerce building is located on the corner of Main and Main Cross streets.

The regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 9 has been canceled in order to hold the mayoral debate on Sept.16.

Little Mt. Baptist fall festival

Little Mount Baptist Church will be holding their annual fall festival Saturday, Sept. 11. Events will begin at 10 a.m. and include horse drawn wagon rides, music, food, yard sale, children’s activities and a live auction.

Free booth space is available for yard sales and other organizations; however, there will be no concession food allowed at booths.

New this year will be a cutest baby contest for boys and girls under 2, a Little Miss Little Mt. for girls 25 months to 5 years and a Little Mt. Princess for girls ages 6 to 10. Entry fee is $3. Prizes will be awarded.

Waterford Homecoming will be held September 18 at Waterford Park. The annual event will feature live music, food, a softball tournament, crafts, a yard sale and silent auction. Money raised after expenses will be used to sponsor local children in need at Christmas. For more, please contact Bettye Yates at 477-2719 or 422-1966.

Progressive Dinner tickets on sale

The 2010 Progressive Dinner, a Main Street Program fundraiser, has been scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25, from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. This semi-formal event features a five-course meal and live music at various local businesses on Main Street in Taylorsville. Guests are welcome to stroll along and listen to street musicians as they progress through the dinner courses, or partake in horse and carriage rides. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased at The Tea Cup or The Red Scooter.

There will also be a raffle for two Progressive Dinner tickets. The cost is $5 for two chances and the drawing will be held Sept. 9. Information and raffle boxes are located at the two businesses listed above.


volunteers, booth vendors

Hickstock, an annual music festival to benefit arts programs in the school, has been set for October 9. Organizers are currently looking for people interested in volunteering at the event or setting up a vendor booth. There is no fee for booths, but vendors should contact Karen Spencer at 619-4416 to reserve a spot.

Hickstock will be held at the fairgrounds and features a day of live music, Karaoke contest and other entertainment. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 11-18. Ten and under are free.

Chamber events

In partnership with the Small Business Development Center, the Chamber of Commerce is able to bring the following events:

• Small business counseling

Small business owners can participate in a private session with an expert from the SBDC September 13. This event is free and will be held in the chamber building. RSVP today to save a time slot by calling 477-8369.

Part three is called Developing you business plan and will be held October 5 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. The cost is $10 for members  and $20 for non-members.

Bunco Friday

The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 11426 will be hosting a Bunko Night Friday, Sept. 10 beginning at 7 p.m. Seating is limited. To reserve a spot, contact Etta Hahn at 477-2330 Entry fee is $10. Cash awards will be given to first, second and third place.

Volunteers needed for Octoberfest

Spencer County’s annual Octoberfest is in need of volunteers to help this event be a success. If you would like to offer your assistance, please contact Sharon Thomas at 477-3200 or Patsy Lewis at 321-0093. Emails can be sent to sc-octoberfest@insightbb.com. Volunteers should sign-up prior to Sept. 15. All volunteers will receive a t-shirt.



Spencer County Octoberfest will be holding pageants for children ages 6 months to 19 years old. Applications can pe picked up at the sheriff’s office. For more information, call 502-321-0093.
