Get the word out about your business

Greater Louisville Sports Commission will be sponsoring the Master’s Cycle Time Trial to be held in Spencer County on Wednesday, July 1.  These folks are looking to hand out a welcome packet filled with information and promotional items from businesses in Spencer County.

The Spencer County-Taylorsville Chamber of Commerce will be working together with the Economic Development Authority, Spencer County Business Association and Taylorsville/Spencer County Tourism Commission in putting the packets together for the cyclists.

If you are interested in having your business information included in the welcome packet; please contact Cara Lewis at The Peoples Bank (477-2244) by June 10; or drop off at the 23W.Main Street, Taylorsville or 5511 Taylorsville Road, Fisherville location of the Peoples Bank.

KY Trails Day benefit

A special planning meeting will be held Thursday at On The Way Café at 7 p.m. to discuss the Celebrate Ky Trails Day Benefit. Anyone who wants to eat at the restaurant should arrive at 6:30 p.m.

The Celebrate Ky Trails Day Benefit will be held at Taylorsville Lake State July 11. At the event there will be a morning trail ride, games (with and without horses), vendors, clinic, music and food. The day-long event will run from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.  If you would like to help, call Brenda Hancock at (502) 477-5331.   

This event is being sponsored by TREK (Trail Riding Equestrians in Ky) and KTRA (Ky Trail Riders Association).

Proceeds from this benefit will go to the expansion of trails in the Taylorsville Lake area.

Ham breakfast at Masonic Lodge

Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #210 will be having an all-you-can-eat country ham breakfast from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m.  Saturday. The breakfast is $6 per person. Carry-out is available. Everyone is welcome.

Kids Fishing Derby and day at the lake

The Spencer County Fish and Game Club will have a FREE Kids’ Fishing Derby Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon at the Taylorsville Lake tailwaters. There will be free door prizes and food. 500 trout have been stocked. A free Kids Day will be held following the free fishing derby. Lunch will be served beginning at 11:30w a.m. at the club located at 1520 Little Mount Road with trap shooting, archery, and more. Summer Food Program at TES

Spencer County Public Schools is sponsoring the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). The SFSP is a state sponsored program that collaborates with non-profit organizations to provide a FREE nutritionally balanced breakfast and lunch for children less than 19 years of age.

The summer food program is available at Taylorsville Elementary School Cafeteria ONLY this summer from June 8 through July 31. Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Acceptance and participation requirements for the program are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, age, or disability and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Parents are asked that a responsible adult accompany younger children.

Fun and Food at TES

A schedule of crafts and games is being offered at TES In conjunction with the Summer Food Program. MPCAA will have crafts and games from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Mondays, June 8 through July 27. Mrs. Krause will have Cultural Explorations from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on June 11 and 25, and July 9 and 23 for grades 4 and up. Spencer County C.A.N. will have fun and games from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on June 18, July 2, 16, and 30.

Bookmobile in Mt. Eden

The Shelby County Bookmobile will be providing two new stops each month in the local area for residents. On the 1st and 3rd  Monday of each month, the Shelby County Public Library bookmobile will stop at Carriss’s Grocery from 1:30 p.m. - 2 p.m. and at the Mount Eden Post Office from 2:15 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. All you need to use the bookmobile is a library card, so bring your card or your Spencer County card along with a photo ID, and we will take care of your reading needs. The bookmobile holds thousands of books in both regular and large print, juvenile books, paperbacks, magazines, audios and much more. Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life in Spencer County will be held June 19 from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. at Spencer County Middle School parking lot.  This event is the American Cancer Society’s signature event bringing communities around the country together in hope, celebration and memory.   Spencer volunteers are making plans to once again make this event possible by recruiting teams, raising money and planning activities to keep participants motivated throughout the night.  “Cancer Never Sleeps” and neither do we. O.R.N.A.I.C. meal and meeting

The Ohio River Native American Intertribal Community (ORNAIC) has a meeting the first Sunday of every month at the Spencer County Extension office on Spears Drive. They have a fellowship meal and socializing from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. and start their meeting at 4 p.m.  Everyone is welcome.
