SCBA meeting

The Spencer County Business Association will be meeting at the new Edward Jones Investments office today at 9 a.m.  The office is located in Elk Creek across from the water tower and Goebel Crossings subdivision in the Elk Creek Realty building. They will be discussing opportunities with SCBA and upcoming events for the new year.  New visitors or anyone interested in checking out what SCBA is all about are welcome.  The meetings normally last about an hour and much information is shared about our community and businesses involved.

Chamber Holiday Social

The Chamber of Commerce will be having their holiday social tomorrow from 11:45 a.m. until 1 p.m.  There will be no official speaker but there will be a full hour of fun, prizes and networking. The 2010 Chamber Board of Directors will be announced. Lunch will be catered by On the Way Café at a cost of $7. Please RSVP to clewis@tpbtaylorsville.com.

4-H pork chop lunch

The Spencer County Extension office will be offering a pork chop lunch for $6 Friday in front of Valley Productions from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Spencer County 4-H Meats Judging Team that is going to Colorado in January to compete with the National Contest.

Christmas Tree contest and


The Christmas Tree Contest and Auction will be held Friday. Help the Main Street program by donating a decorated tree, wreath, or centerpiece. They will be auctioned after Christmas on Main Street.  If you have any questions call Laurita at 477-5552.

FFA Farm Toy Show

The 2009  Spencer County FFA Farm Toy Show will be held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday at Spencer County High School.   A feature this year will be “Freddie Farmer’s Fun Farm”  complete with  pedal tractors, a shelled corn sand box. 

Holiday dates for drivers license testing

Attention parents and prospective teenage drivers, CDL and motorcycle applicants. Because Christmas, and New Year’s fall on Thursdays this year, the drivers’ license testing will be held on December 23, and December 30 at the regular times. All teen drivers ages 16/17 are required, by law, to present to the examiner, at the time of the road test, an eligibility letter and drivers’ log which should consist of 50 hours of daytime driving and 10 hours of nighttime driving. The eligibility letter must be printed off the computer within a seven day period prior to taking the road test. The web site address is: https://eligibility.gdl.kytc.ky.gov. If you fail to present the aforementioned letter, no road test will be given.

Donate to Shop-With-A-Cop

Christmas is coming soon and with your help the Spencer County Sheriff’s office is going to take some of our needy children shopping. They will be taking the children shopping tomorrow so get your donations to any Sheriff’s deputy or to the Sheriff’s office. Make checks payable to  Spencer County Sheriff, c/o Shop-With-A-Cop. Your donation is greatly appreciated. 100% of all donations goes to the children.

Margie Porter reception

There will be a reception held for Margie Porter in recognition of her 50 years of service to Valley View Cemetery. The reception will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge. The community is invited to attend.

Toys for Tots

Toys for Tots will be accepting new, unwrapped toys at the following locations: the Tea Cup, the Family Diner, Dr. Ransdell’s office, and Elite Family Dentistry until Monday.

Lions Club

The Spencer County Lions Club will meet Monday at Elk Creek Restaurant and Grocery beginning at 7 p.m.

Story time at the Library

Story time at the Spencer County Library will be held through the school year. When school is out for holidays, breaks, or inclement weather, there will not be story time. Story time is held on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for toddlers through preschool and at 6:30 p.m. for children preschool through first grade.

Bardstown Christmas Home Tour

The Stephen Foster Music Club’s annual Candlelight Christmas Home Tour will be held Friday from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 the day of the tour and are available at the Welcome Center, located at One Court Square (the Old Courthouse) in downtown Bardstown. Free tutoring

First Baptist Church on Main Street in Taylorsville is offering free tutoring in basic reading and math skills for students in Grades 1 – 8.  Tutors will be available on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. until noon.  Please enter through the Agape door at the side parking lot.  New students should come at 9:45 to allow registration time.  All are welcome.

Louisville Youth Choir auditions

Winter mid-season auditions for the remainder of the Louisville Youth Choir’s 43rd season will be held on January 4, 2010 at Sacred Heart School for the Arts, Angela Hall, bldg. 17 at 3105 Lexington Rd. on the Ursuline Campus.
