John 3:1-7 – There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
One of my favorite preachers is Billy Graham. He said one time that 60 percent of all church members are lost. You know the way a lot of them act it would make one believe Billy was right.
In my ministry I have seen people go forward and give their hand to the preacher and claim they accepted God as their saviour and nothing changed in their life. They kept living the same old sinful life they always lived. Most even joined the church.
I have also seen people come to the altar and holler and scream out at God on Sunday night and get out that same week and commit adultery. I have even seen church leaders who did not trust Christ enough to let him be the head of the church. They thought they knew more about running the church than Christ did.
In Ephesians 1, we see after God raised Christ from the dead, God put him the head of all things.
Ephesians 1:22-23 – And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
I was once in a church where most of the leaders thought Paul’s letter to Timothy was not the way to operate a church. Paul had written to Timothy after he had left him in a church at Ephesus. When it was pointed out to the leaders they would not listen and went on and adopted how they wanted to run their church and believe me it had nothing to do with what Paul wrote to Timothy.
Now you might think I am judging but I am not judging, I’m telling the truth. The truth is we have so many people who have never been born again at the head of our churches. Some of the leaders never go forward or never tell what Jesus has done in their life. They are more afraid of what the congregation will think than what Jesus Christ thinks. In other words, they would rather satisfy the congregation than they would Jesus Christ.
What does born again really mean? The best answer I know comes from 2 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
