FROM THE WORD: Do not add or take away

-A A +A
By C.L. Glasscock

This morning I finished reading through the Bible and near the end God warned us not to add to or take away from the Word of God. This means exactly what the Word of God says.

In the last few weeks we have heard a lot about the gays in the Armed forces. It was not long ago I had a discussion with a woman and she believed it was alright to be gay, that it was governed by your orientation.

I did not know what orientation meant so I looked it up in the dictionary. The meaning is the state of being oriented, the direction that any process, movement or development follows, the act or process or finding out the actual facts and conditions and putting oneself in the right relation to them.

If this woman was right about orientation and the meaning the way I read it, she meant homosexuality is by choice. But I still like the meaning in the Word of God better.

Romans 1:21-28 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.

Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.

I did not know what reprobate meant so I looked it up in the dictionary. The meaning a very wicked or unprincipled person; scoundrel.

1. Very wicked unprincipled, depraved, corrupted, dissolute, profligate

2. Condemned as worthless or inferior

3. Theology predestined to eternal punishment or death, beyond salvation.

I know a lot of us are forced with this very thing by some loved one, and I also know we are to face any problem with the truth and with love. We are to be a witness about the Love of God and also about the wrath of God. Many of us like to hear the love of God but we don’t like to hear about the wrath of God. But regardless whether it is love or wrath we as preachers have to tell it like it is written in the Bible which is the Word of God.
