FROM THE WORD: With faith like a child

-A A +A
By C.L. Glasscock

In our church, we have several little children that attend regularly. I tell you, these children have stolen my heart. They cause so many memories to wash over me of my own childhood.

This one little girl, maybe 10 years old, had never been to church before. Another was four and he also had never stepped foot into a church.

When I was a child, I was never taught much about God. I did everything wrong. I learned how to gamble when I was only 11 or 12.  That was followed by a long list of wrong-doing such as smoking, drinking, cursing, lying – I even stole a few things and committed fornication. I praise the Lord they did not have drugs in my younger years because from all indications, I probably would have tried that too.

I praise the Lord that he reached down in the pits of the hell I was in and brought me out on his rock to stay. I was 31 when that happened and that was the greatest day of my life.

Let’s see what the Bible has to say about little children.

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven? And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them and said, Verily I say unto you, except ye be converted and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of Heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of Heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso shall offed one of these little ones which believes in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Matthew 18:1-6.

Now, let’s ask ourselves: What is the word of God saying to us about children? First of all, Solomon in the book of Proverbs is telling us to teach children about Jesus Christ. That way, the children will always remember and have his truth in their heart.  When one learns about Jesus, they do not forget. A person may stray into sin, but will always remember his holy name.

In Matthew, Jesus is telling us that before we can receive him, we have to humble our hearts as a little child. That means we have to give up everything in this world which would come between us and him – and start life born again.

Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away, behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17.

Chaplin Missionary

is moving

Our church, Chaplin Missionary Baptist, is moving from its current location to Chaplin Elementary School. We have leased the building for five years and are going to be able to offer our families a wonderful new space filled with opportunities for growth and recreation.

Owner Charles Howard has completely rennovated the building. We will be able to have basketball leagues – or most anything our children could be interested in.

I invite everyone to come join us in celebrating our first Sunday in the new building September 5.
