FROM THE WORD: Same truth found in old and new

-A A +A
By C.L. Glasscock

The amazing thing about discussing the Bible with a lot of Christian people and bringing up scripture in the Old Testament and if it is something they don’t want to abide by they will say yes that is in the Old Testament. When I wrote about drinking alcohol I heard this a lot.

Isaiah 5:11-14 – Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!

And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the Lord, neither consider the operation of his hands. Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst. Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.

Some Christians do not believe this because it is from the Old Testament. Maybe they will believe what Isaiah wrote about Jesus going to come and die for our sins.

In Isaiah Chapter 53 we will see Isaiah predicting Jesus coming to earth and dying for our sins, Isaiah says he was despised and rejected, he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, he was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray we have turned everyone to his own way and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him and to make his soul an offering for sin.

I wish I had room to write the whole 53rd chapter of Isaiah in this article. Please read it in your Bible and then read any of the four gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke or John and see if Isaiah was right in predicting about Jesus coming to earth and dying a horrible death for our sins. As we read these four gospels, we see Isaiah was right telling us about Jesus coming to earth living and dying for our sins.

How can we say the Old Testament was wrong about him writing about strong drink or anything else in the Old Testament? I tell you it makes my skin crawl when I hear someone who claims to be a Christian and I tell what the Bible says and they say yes but that is in the Old Testament like we are not supposed to believe it.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:17 – Think not I am come to destroy the law or the prophets I am not come to destroy but to fulfill.

In Matthew Chapter 4 we see Jesus using the Word of God to defeat the devil when he was tempted in the wilderness. In the eighth chapter of Acts we see this eunuch reading the book of Isaiah and the Lord lead Phillip one of his servants to him and when he explained what Isaiah was telling him he accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized. I hope everyone will understand by reading the Bible that the Old Testament is the inspired Word of God.
