FROM THE WORD: Strong drink and the Christian

As we look at God’s word on alcohol, turn to Isaiah 5:11-14. “Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them! And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the Lord, neither consider the operation of his hands. Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished and their multitude dried up with thirst. Therefore hell hath enlarged herself and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.”

1 Corinthians: 6:9-10 “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.”

As we look at Isaiah the prophet of God, he is predicting that Hell will be enlarged to hold all the people who chose to follow this joyous and drunkard life.

I have heard a lot of people who claim to be a Christian say, “Oh that is alright for me to do those things. I have been saved.”

If you are one of them, please look at what Paul wrote in 1Corinthians 6:9-10. He really classified drunkards with fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, abusers, thieves, revilers, extortions, that they would not inherit the kingdom of heaven.

One thing I want my readers to understand. I write what the Bible says. I use the old Kings James version which was translated in 1611. The reason is that I trust the people in those days more than the people today. I hear this about my articles from people who read them. Most say that they really enjoy them. Some say I make them nervous. I say, I write and preach what God lays on my heart. Sometimes it’s wrath, sometimes it’s love. All of the time it is the Word of God.
