  • Hall graduates from Butler

    Jordan Hall of Taylorsville was among 717 graduates to receive diplomas from Butler University during Spring 2013 Commencement on May 11, earning a degree in history and political science.
    Best-selling author John Green addressed the graduates, telling them that their “hero’s journey” would be one of moving “from strength to weakness.” Butler conferred honorary degrees on Green and on veteran Indianapolis educator Martha Mitchell during the ceremony.

  • Hume earns his Master of Arts in Education

    On Saturday, May 4, University of the Cumberlands announced that Duane Hume of Taylorsville graduated during its annual commencement ceremony with a Master of Arts in Education degree in Instructional Leadership Principal All G.
    The University conferred 536 total degrees during the commencement ceremony making it the largest graduating class in UC’s history.  There were 166 Baccalaureate degrees, 357 Master’s degrees, and 13 Doctorate degrees.

  • Two Taylorsville residents graduate from Centre College

    Centre College’s 190th Commencement on May 19 saw the largest graduating class in the college’s history. Martha Raddatz, ABC News Chief Global Affairs Correspondent and moderator of the 2012 Vice Presidential Debate, was this year’s featured commencement speaker. She received an honorary doctor of humane letters from Centre during the ceremony.
    Two Taylorsville residents were part of the graduation class.

  • Russell earns Master of Science in Nursing at Loyola

    Loyola University New Orleans awarded 1,036 degrees at its undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremony at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Saturday, May 11.
    Laarni Domagas Russell, from Fisherville, received a Master of Science in Nursing degree from the College of Social Sciences.

  • UK releases dean’s list for spring semester

    The University of Kentucky has released its dean’s list for the Spring 2013 semester. A total of 5,196 students were recognized for their outstanding academic performance.
    Students from Spencer County who made the dean’s list are listed below with their year and major:
    Rachel Leigh Allgeier, junior, secondary education - English education
    Ryan James Barr, senior, human nutrition
    Arden Shayn Cooper, sophomore, interior design
    Kevin Douglas Herndon, senior, career and technical education

  • PHOTOS: Spencer Elementary chorus and percussion ensemble receive first place at festival

    SCES Chorus and Percussion Ensemble both received first place in their divisions at the ‘Music in the Parks’ festival at Kings Island on Saturday, May 18. The  Percussion Ensemble also earned “Best Overall Percussion Ensemble.”
