  • Brown siblings graduate

    Mike and Kathy Brown of Taylorsville would like to announce the college graduation of their children, Alex and Katie Brown. Both children attended Spencer County schools.
    Alex is graduating from the University of Louisville this Saturday with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in computer information systems. Katie graduated May 4 from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree in aerospace engineering.

  • Bentley a U of L graduate

    Mr. and Mrs. Barry Bentley announce the graduation of their son, Joseph “Joey” Bentley, from the University of Louisville Speed School of Engineering on Saturday, May 11.
    Bentley will earn a Masters of Engineering degree with a major in civil engineering. He is a 2008 graduate from Spencer County High School and is employed as an engineer for the Metropolitan Sewer District.

  • 4 SCHS, 1 CCA students named Governor’s Scholars

    The Governor’s Scholars Program of Kentucky recently announced that five Spencer County students were selected to participate in this year’s prestigious summer program.

  • Williamson accepted to Gatton Academy

    Spencer County High School recently received notification that sophomore Noah Williamson has been accepted to the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky.

  • Middle School student wins KHEAA essay contest

    Kelsie Justice, a sixth-grader at Spencer County Middle School, was recently named the winner of the Dream Out Loud Challenge, hosted by KHEAA.  Students were to write an essay, poem or produce a video demonstrating how they will change the world after college.

  • PHOTOS: Latin scholars

    Three students in Susan McGowan’s Latin classes received awards for their performance on the ‘2013 ACL/NCL National Latin Exam.’  Two of those students were recognized during Monday night’s Board of Education meeting. Robin Kosanouvong earned the silver maxima cum laude award, but was not present at the board meeting.

    Hands on their desks. Eyes glued to the front of the room. Mouths shut and ears open. Those three statements describe each of the four classrooms at Spencer County Elementary School, with which I had a chance to speak on Friday.

    During the 23 years Andy Henderson has taught in Spencer County, his program has undergone numerous changes including transitioning from industrial arts to technology education his first year on the job.

  • Spencer County, Taylorsville elementary schools represent county well at regional Governor’s Cup

    The Spencer County Elementary School quick recall team finished fourth at the regional Governor’s Cup competition, and is pictured at right.
    Students from Spencer County and Taylorsville elementary schools who placed in the top five in competition are:
    Social studies written assessment: Josh Dunkelbeger, SCES, fifth place
    Language arts written assessment: Calvin Sosebee, SCES, first place; Caden Little, TES, fifth place
    Composition: Vanessa Velasquez, TES, second place
