• Locals named to dean’s list at Bellarmine University

    Bellarmine University has named students to its dean’s list for the fall 2012 semester. The dean’s list recognizes students who receive a grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale. The following local residents were named to the dean’s list:
    •Taylorsville resident Gabrielle Adams, a freshman who is majoring in elementary education, and previously attended Bethlehem High School.
    •Taylorsville resident Victoria Kute, a junior who is majoring in exercise science, and previously attended Bullitt East High School.

  • Camp Invention is coming to Spencer County this summer

    Just because school is out during the summer doesn’t mean the fun of learning has to end.  Children entering grades one through six are invited to attend this year’s summer camp from Camp Invention titled Geo-Quest. The camp is June 10 through June 14 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Taylorsville Elementary School.
    The Geo-Quest program will feature the following:
    Cache Dash — An international expedition where you can navigate your way to treasure-filled caches containing global challenges from youth around the world.

  • Elementary students get to work in BizTown

    As the words, “The town is now open,” are belted out, roughly 60 students hustle back and forth across the makeshift town square focusing on their jobs assigned for the day. This is called Junior Achievement BizTown.

    On Thursday, the Spencer County High School Student Council traveled to Spencer County Middle School to speak to current eighth graders about becoming involved in high school and making a positive impact on the school and community.

    Caleb Fulkerson was awarded with the Spencer County High School Student of the Month award for February.  He was nominated by Peggy Pickett for helping with the 40 or more entries for solos/ensembles.  Without his help, the band would not have been so successful, Pickett said.

  • Two graduate from U of L

    Two Spencer Countians graduated from the University of Louisville after the fall 2012 semester:
    Lori Sue Henderson Kyser earned a Bachelor of Science degree, and
    Khoua Lor earned a Bachelor of Science degree.

    The Taylorsville Elementary School academic team was recognized for its achievements at Monday night’s Board of Education meeting. Team members, in no particular order, are Audrey Hickerson, Mary Young, Reece Russell, Riley Collins-Schultz, Hunter Chesser, Vanessa Velasquez, Allie Roberts,  Jacob Wurts, Caden Little and Carter Pierce.
