• PHOTOS: Spencer County Elementary Star Students

    The PTA of Spencer County Elementary School began a program this school year entitled Star Students. The PTA asks teachers to choose a student from their classroom who demonstrates the following: academic growth, doing their personal best in everything they do, positive attitude toward peers and teachers, appropriate behavior or improvement of behavior. Pictured are the students chosen as the star student for their classrooms for the months of October and November.

  • Vowels earns nursing degree at UK

    Lindsey Katherine Vowels of Taylorsville, daughter of Pete and Dianne Vowels, was awarded a degree from the University of Kentucky College of Nursing at a special recognition ceremony held Dec. 14, 2012.
    The UK College of Nursing offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, as well as two doctoral programs, the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD).

  • Hall named to Butler University dean’s list

    Jordan Hall, a history and political science major and a resident of Taylorsville, is on Butler University’s dean’s list for the fall semester of the 2012-2013 academic year. Recipients range from freshman to sixth-year pharmacy students.
    Degree-seeking undergraduate students at Butler who carry at least 12 academic hours in a given semester are eligible for the dean’s list in the college in which they are enrolled.

  • Grantz named to Sewanee dean’s list

    Michael Grantz of Fisherville has been named to the dean’s list at the University of the South, familiarly known as Sewanee, for the Advent 2012 term. To earn a place on Sewanee’s dean’s list, a student must earn a minimum grade point average of 3.625 on a 4.0 scale.
    Grantz is the child of Julie and William K. Grantz.

  • Devine named to Bellarmine dean’s list

    Maverick Devine was recently named to the fall semester dean’s list of the W. Fielding Ruble School of Business at Bellarmine University. He is a son of Rick and Connie Devine and a graduate of Spencer County High School.

    The students, faculty, staff and administrators of the Spencer County Public Schools are saluting this community’s elected education leaders during January in Kentucky’s 18th annual observation of School Board Recognition Month.

    Spencer County High School has announced the names of six students who have been selected as nominees to represent SCHS in the Governor’s Scholars summer program for 2013.

    Campbellsville University Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Frank Cheatham recently announced the academic honors’ list for the fall 2012 semester.
    The following students have been named to Campbellsville University’s fall 2012 Dean’s List:
    Chelsey Joan Robinson, a freshman of Taylorsville;
    Jeffrey Shawn Sosebee, a senior of Taylorsville;
    Courtney Brooke Spurling, a sophomore of Taylorsville.

  • New NHS members to be inducted Friday

    Mary E. Baldock, math teacher at Spencer County High School, recently announced the newest members of the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society.
    “As the sponsor of the Spencer County High School Chapter of the National Honor Society, it gives me great pleasure to announce our new members,” Baldock said. “When you see these students, please offer your congratulations and let them know that they have been recognized for their outstanding scholarship, conduct, leadership and service to others.”
