  • People are history, too

    When students come in Dan Barnett’s Global Studies class next year, they will come face-to-face with Alexander the Great, Napoleon, Joan of Arc and over 30 other great figures from history. Why? Because Barnett’s ninth-grade class created life-sized creations of some of histories most famous (and notorious) people.

    Spencer County Elementary School students portray figures from American ‘tall tales’ including Johnny Appleseed, John Henry and, of course, Paul Bunyan and Babe, the blue ox.

  • Middle, high school drama students to perform ‘The Hobbit’

    Magic descends on Taylorsville this week as the Spencer County middle and high school drama students perform their production of “The Hobbit.”

    The show opens on Thursday, May 10 at 7pm in the middle school theater. The cost is $2 for students and $4 for adults. Other performances are on May 11 and 12 at 7pm and Sunday, May 13 at 2pm.

    Auditions for the play were in February. Twenty-eight actors and twenty-three crew members have worked hard to get the play ready. Approximately 70% of the students involved are from the middle school.

    The Taylorsville-Spencer County Fire Department, Spencer County EMS and Taylorsville Police Department put together this mock crash scene at Spencer County High School last Wednesday as a reminder to students to drive safely and responsibly, especially with a milestone event like graduation coming soon.

  • PHOTOS: Raising balloons, raising awareness

    Students at Spencer County Preschool and Spencer County Head Start release balloons into the air on Thursday in observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Each balloon had a note inside asking whoever finds it to do a kind act for a child. The note also included contact information for those who released it, so they can hear how the kindness spreads.

  • 2012 SCHS band solos and ensembles honorees

    Congratulations goes to the Spencer County High School’s band members who competed in Solos and Ensembles held at East Oldham Middle School.

    Spencer County High School students got to see what it’s like to drive while impaired by alcohol or other drugs during a demonstration on April 6. Students also gave walking a straight line in the demonstration goggles a try.
