  • Fisherville man graduates from Alabama’s Samford University

    Christopher Sean Duffy of Fisherville graduated from Samford University during spring commencement on May 14.
    Duffy earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree.
    Founded in 1841, Samford is the largest private university in Alabama with more than 4,700 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled annually.

  • Three Taylorsville residents receive academic recognition at WKU

    Three Taylorsville residents earned academic recognition during the spring 2011 semester at Western Kentucky University.
    Kathryn E. Minyard was named to the dean’s list.
    Allison J. Beeson and Joel R. Fickel were named to the president’s list.
    Students making the dean’s list have a grade-point average of 3.4 to 3.79 on a 4.0 scale. Students on the president’s list have GPAs of 3.8 to 4.0.
    To be eligible for either list, students must have at least 12 hours of coursework that semester.

  • Ashley named to Morehead State dean's list

    Aaron M. Ashley of Taylorsville was named to the Morehead State University dean’s list for the 2011 spring semester.
    To be named to the list, a student must be enrolled on a full-time basis and achieve at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for the current semester.

  • Dowell named to Wofford College dean's list

    Chelsea Taylor Dowell of Fisherville was named to the dean’s list at Wofford College for the spring 2011 semester.
    To be named to the dean’s list, a student must be enrolled for at least 12 semester hours of graded courses and attain a semester grade point average of 3.6 or higher.
    Dowell earned a 4.0 GPA for the semester.

  • Shelburne graduates from University of Kentucky

    Tommy Wilson Shelburne, of Taylorsville, graduated from the University of Kentucky on May 19 with a bachelor’s degree from the college of fine arts.  Shelburne has a graphic design degree, which he earned earlier and has been professionally using that experience for a couple of years.  He has worked for UK part-time while attending classes.
    He is a son of David and Jane Shelburne and a Spencer County High School graduate.

  • Heiss 'goes the distance' for Spencer County Schools

    Taylorsville Elementary School Counselor Heidi Heiss received the 2011 Going the Distance Award for Spencer County Schools. Heiss was commended for the extra effort she put in during the 2010-11 school year to help families in the district.

  • TES year-end honor roll

    The following Taylorsville Elementary students were named to the All A honor roll for the 2010-2011 school year:
    Connor Foster, Madison Goodlett, Jacob Goodwin, Joshua Hall, Jaynie Heckert, Joshua Richards, Allie Roberts, Zachary Tipton and Hunter Wethington.

  • TES Chorus wins big

    Recently the Taylorsville Elementary School Chorus under the direction of music teacher, Erin Kelley, competed in the Music in the Parks Competition at Kings Island.

  • Fire training for school workers

    The Taylorsville-Spencer County Fire Department conducted a fire safety training for Spencer County Schools on June 3.

    Members of the custodial, maintenance, Bear Care, and cafeteria staff experienced hands-on training with the proper procedure for using fire extinguishers. Spencer County Schools Director of Operations Brett Beaverson said hopefully none of the school employees will have to use the training, but felt good to know that many employees are trained in using a fire extiguisher.

  • High school recognized for work with exchange students

    The EF Foundation recently recognized Spencer County High School for all of its efforts in working with Katharina and Thibault (T-bo) as exchange students this past school year.  In the picture with three people are Linda Goldy, school counselor, Robyn Baxter, vice principal and Katharina Meissneitzer, an exchange student from Austria.
